National Air and Space Museum release
Meet the New Astronaut Class

Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, 10 a.m to 11 a.m.
Moving Beyond Earth gallery
National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC

Join us as the National Air and Space Museum and NASA introduce the 2013 Astronaut Candidate Class. Eight new astronauts will take the stage in the Moving Beyond Earth gallery to talk about the selection process, what skills they hope to bring to their new job, and when they might take flight. The candidates will also speak with astronauts aboard the ISS and take questions from the audience.

Each class refreshes the face of NASA, showing the world that they are continuing forward in expanding space exploration.

NASA TV will broadcast this event from the museum live.

The newest group of NASA ascans appeared at the National Air and Space Museum on January 30, 2014. Astronaut Leland Melvin emceed as children asked questions to both the ascans at NASM and U.S. astronauts on the International Space Station via a downlink. There were about 100 elementary and middle school students in the audience.

I was asked by a gentleman after the event, "Are you cS?" I said yes but if I was quicker thinking, I would have given my Wally Schirra response, "YBYSAIA." The gentleman was collectSPACE member vanmanboatin. I also chatted with cS members Pete Sarmiento and Mike Isbell so cS was well represented at the event.

Astronaut Melvin did an outstanding job hosting and will be missed by NASA upon his upcoming retirement.

All times are CT (US)
