Hot on the heels of the highly successful Charlie Duke event, Ken Willoughby is pleased to announce the appearance of Apollo 7 LMP Walt Cunningham in March of 2013.

Ken had to postpone this event last year because of building issues at the new venue but those are now a thing of the past and Walt is looking forward to coming.

  • Dinner at Wentbridge House Hotel, The Great North Road, Wentbridge, West Yorkshire. WF8 3JJ on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 19:00. Tickets are £60. Photo shoot is £20, payable on night. After dinner auction.

    Cheques payable to Ken Willoughby.

  • "Apollo - The Golden Age of Spaceflight." Public lecture by Walt Cunningham-Apollo 7. Saturday March 16th at Carleton Community High School. Carleton Green,Carleton Road, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. WF8 3NW.

Tickets are £30. Photo shoot is £20, payable at event. One item per person will be signed free after talk. Cheques payable to Space Lectures.

As on previous occasions the event will rely upon ticket sales but given the enthusiasm exhibited by those that attended the Duke event last month I am confident enough to promote this event well in advance. Please be sure to include a self-addressed envelope with ticket orders. Thank you.

You know what to do!

Count me in! I think that Walt C will be a fitting appearance following Charlie Duke. He will have a few tales to tell in a style of his very own.

Good work Ken!!!!

I have just noticed that it's Walt's birthday on March 16th, 81 years old. Let's hope for a full house and really make it a special occasion!

I have been told by a friend of mine in Florida that we are in for a treat! My cheque is on it's way.

This could well be his last visit to these shores so I hope everyone takes the opportunity to see him.

This may seem pretty obvious but can people requesting tickets from Ken please include a self-addressed envelope with their order?

Ken received one ticket order today without one. Thanks guys.

Wow, I am in for this! Very excited.

Could you give me an address to send the cheque to please?

I'm currently building a pair of replica EVA gloves, so I'd love Mr. Cunningham to sign one of them.

Having spoken to Ken yesterday ticket sales have been steady for the forthcoming event. Walt is the last surviving member of the historic, back to flight, Apollo 7. What better Christmas present than a chance to meet the great man and listen to a gifted speaker. Please don't forget the Combo Ticket offer and each ticket ensures a free autograph.

Let's make this event as successful as the last.

Christmas is behind us and New Year will soon follow; time to focus on the impending astronaut events planned for 2013.

Next Year may seem a long way off; in reality Walt's show is only three months away.

Meeting Walt Cunningham strikes me as a worthy New Year's resolution.

Anybody get any Walt Cunningham tickets from Santa then?

We are already in to the second week of January and the time is really flying by. It will be mid March before we know it.

Walt I'd imagine will require his deposit pretty soon from Ken so get to it guys.

Here again are Ken's contact details (ken.willoughby@btinternet.com) and a link to his site.

Nope! Got my order in early to celebrate getting away with a future day out without the Command Module realizing I'd done so.

moorouge, we could do with more like you. Ticket sales to date for Walt have been slow. Typically they pick up nearer the event but deposits have to be paid so the sooner the orders get in the better.

I find it hard to believe that following on from the successful Charlie Duke event that this isn't already a sell-out!

I have just spoken to Ken and all members who have not booked tickets for the events need to act now. Ken has to pay the deposit very shortly. Let us make the event as successful as the last one.

It has been a long time since Walt visited the UK and this may be the last chance of meeting him. Do not forget Walt will sign autographs, have photos taken and he delivers a excellent lecture.

Let us all make this stress free for Ken and ensure we send in our cheques promptly.

I certainly hope all the so called 'space enthusiasts' in this country do get their cheques in so we can meet Walt! I cannot remember him being over here before and with most of the apollo astronauts saying they are not travelling any more it could be our last chance to meet him!
James.

Hear, hear!

We cannot expect these people to be happy willing visitors if the organisers struggle to raise the support. Imagine how much better a visit would be if the 'person' concerned knew that there was resounding support and eager anticipation of his/her visit, and the opportunity of meeting them.

Can I add my voice to the request that all those people still deliberating to send their cheque in ASAP. Thank you.

I certainly agree. We have missed out on Lovell, Armstrong and Schmitt coming to Pontefract because no one would pay to meet them for some strange reason that is totally beyond me. We should grab the opportunity to meet the rare visitors with both hands, no matter where they are appearing!

I am loathe to say it but I think "Joe Public" with only a passing interest are always on the lookout for a moonwalker perhaps? While I know this does not apply to us, we need ticket sales to the "great" British public too, which could be the problem I suppose?

After the Harrison Schmitt debarcle it was suggested that a wider advertising campaign might be beneficial for future events such as via local newspapers or tv station. The limited number of interested parties able to be reached through these forums I suspect will not be enough to secure the number required.

If it's possible to get the information out into the wider community, and big-up the importance of the Apollo 7 mission, we might just be able to save this one.

I think it safe to say the campaign to promote Dr. Schmitt was pretty extensive.

Direct contact with radio, tv and newspapers in Yorkshire, all the Astronomy Societies and Universities in the UK, promotion by Professor Brian Cox to his 600,000 Twitter followers in addition to 3000 direct e-mail by Ken to guests who had attended previous astronaut events in Pontefract.

Then of course there was contact with schools across Yorkshire and Merseyside, businesses and banks in and around the region not to mention regular posts here on Collectspace.

Incidentally, when Brian Cox kindly agreed to post on Twitter about Dr. Schmitt's appearance in Pontefract he confidently predicted tickets would "sell out over night."

Best estimates suggests his 600,000 followers produced around 80 tickets orders!

Short of a national advertising campaign on prime time tv or the national newspapers at a cost that would have paid for Armstrong, Lovell, Cernan and Schmitt... I think promotion was good.

Ticket orders for Dr Schmitt numbered in excess of 400; attempts to bring Ken Mattingly to the UK have to date secured just 3 backers.

Words are meaningless. We must get Walt over here for what could be our last opportunity to meet him! I just cannot understand why this event has not sold out!

Walt is 81 on the day of his talk, we should make this his best birthday present ever! He charges $80 (£50) for an autograph at events but for £30 we get a talk and an autograph in Pontefract plus £20 for a photo with him which is good value. The events in Pontefract are excellent and certainly worth the trip. I can also recommend the dinner at Wentbridge House Hotel.
