Always the funny guy, at least they didn't push him in the pool this time. From Boulder Daily Camera:
With its outdoor pool, expansive grass field and trademark rocket ship jungle gym on its playground, Scott Carpenter Park is a Boulder institution where generations of kids have played.

On Thursday, astronaut Scott Carpenter, for whom the park was named a half-century ago, returned to the park for a 50th anniversary rededication ceremony.

I can't think of a more perfect way to keep the memory of a great man alive for future generations. Congratulations Scott Carpenter.

A true American hero, a kind and gracious man. He deserves this and more.

Bruce McCandless was also there. People have started sending in photos for Scott's web site. They're on the 50th anniversary page. I expect a few more next week.

From what I've been told, about 700 people showed up for the rededication, everyone was thrilled to see Scott, they didn't push him in the pool this time and a good time was had by all. The head of the Parks and Rec department will be getting me some more information for posting after he gets some well needed shuteye - but he was one happy camper as Scott showing up made the whole event.

I was surprised when I heard that Bruce McCandless was there. Does he live near Boulder, CO?

Some great new photos from some folks who were there and sent them in. And, yes, Bruce McCandless lives in CO.

They're on the 50th anniversary page of Scott's website.

I love the YouTube video. Scott always has the perfect words for situations like this.

For the record, I have received many e-mails from the people of Boulder who attended the event. They were all grateful that Scott was there for the rededication and were very proud to call him one of their own. They were all very honored.

All times are CT (US)
