The Space Association of Australia is partnering with the Victorian Space Science Education Centre to host a 'landing party', where like minded space enthusiasts and their families can witness this historic event.

The phrase which springs to mind is "tempting fate." I will be cringing in front of the TV in my hotel bedroom.

Well, NASA did manage to 'bounce down' a spacecraft wrapped in airbags a while back, remember how crazy we all thought that was? And they did it twice!

Three times, actually (don't forget Mars Pathfinder) and I was cringing in front of my TV for all of them. Same for Beagle 2, and in that case the cringing was justified.

I suppose holding a pre-landing party gives you immediate access to the means of "drowning your sorrows" if things go wrong, but for me it will be pre-breakfast, and that option won't exist!

Our event is almost fully subscribed but if you can't make it you can see all the fun at the Victorian Space Science Education Centre here.

Godspeed Curiosity!
