I just noticed on the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation website's calendar of events that the Apollo 17 40th anniversary celebration will be during the Astronaut Autograph and Memorabilia Show next year (Nov. 1-3, 2012). Looks like they plan to celebrate the Apollo 17 mission for the dinner on Saturday night, Nov. 3. |

They're wise to do it before the holidays kick in. |

Except doing it during the commercial "show" may make it harder to attract Schmitt, who seems to be allergic to such events. |

Yes, but the reception and the dinner are separate from the show, so if he would like to avoid the commercial aspect, he simply won't participate in that portion. I know other astronauts have done the same thing in the past. |

Unlikely that Neil Armstrong would come though... or would he?

Armstrong attended the Apollo 12 40th anniversary gala, which was the Saturday night dinner during the 2009 Astronaut Autograph and Memorabilia Show. |

Armstrong did come to the Apollo 12 dinner at the ASF show and sat with Charlie Bolden and Robert Cabana amongst others.I saw him briefly in the lobby of the hotel a few hours before diner and later I snapped a few photos of Mr. Armstrong with various people including Robert. I was lucky enough to have sat a couple of tables over with Tom and Linda Stafford for that evenings dinner and Mrs. Stafford told me that Neil Armstrong, in the past few years has really made an effort to attend more of these functions. |

Schmitt was at the Radisson two years ago during the ASF AAMS, even though he had nothing to do with the show. My guess is he was there for the launch of STS-133. He was nice enough to take a photo with me.As for Armstrong, he was at the ASF Apollo 14 and 15 40th anniversary events also, but they were limited to less than 100 people. The AAMS is a bit larger. |

I saw Jack Schmitt there too. I ran into him near the pool bar and said hello. But he was there or another event not the ASF show. |

Does anyone know why the Apollo 17 anniversary event is no longer on the ASF's calendar of events for 2012? It was scheduled to occur during the AAMS on Nov. 3, as mentioned here. But it is no longer listed at all.Is the date being reconsidered? Thanks for any info anyone can supply. |

Maybe there was too much discussion about it so far in advance, there was a desire not to get people's hopes up? I wouldn't read too much into either something being posted or taken down at this point. Things will start to firm up later in the year. Until then I'm sure they are pretty fluid. |

Well, reading about the Apollo 17 dinner on the ASF site is interesting. It's combined with the Astronaut Autograph show. Tickets are only $250 vs. $1000 for the Apollo 16. It's at the Radisson, vs. the Saturn V building. Looks like a different animal altogether. We're considering either the Platinum Plus to the Autograph Show or the Astronaut induction in May instead. Not a lot of cash to burn, so this may be it for a long while. We did Spacefest on Friday last year, but the intimacy of the 40th Anniversary Soirees looks like a once-in-a-lifetime event. Just wondering what the Apollo 17 will be like. Any thoughts? Editor's note: Threads merged. |

If it is like the Apollo 12 40th two years ago it should be pretty good. They had some great speakers including Neil Armstrong, Charlie Bolden, Bob Cabana, Gerry Griffin and of Course Al Bean and Dick Gordon and and an excellent interview from years past with Pete Conrad that almost made you feel like Pete was in attendence. ASF does an excellent job at these affairs. |

Both the Apollo 17 40th and the Apollo 16 40th will be great! The Apollo 16 event will be a bit more intimate, but like I said both will be well worth attending. |

I bought the Platinum Plus last year and had the time of my life, I think only because it was my first event. This time I have to "slum it" with just the Platinum but I have added the Apollo 17 photo op at $150 and gave up the "Hall of Fame tour," the breakfast and the Fred Haise movie and talk... that all saved me $450 for other things. |

I'm in! Ordered the Platinum ticket with the photo-op as an add-on since I will not be able to be there for all the events. I was also at the Apollo 12 dinner. Although it is a large rooom, there was plenty of opportunity for personal interactions such as meeting and brief conversations with the likes of Bill Anders, Charlie Bolden and Bill Cabana. |

Just bought the platinum ticket with photo also!I did the Apollo 12 40th on the gold ticket so this will be my first time at the VIP reception... so if you see a englishman standing on his own in the corner take pity!!! What do people think are the chances of the KSC tour still taking in the VAB in November? (Please say very high as wasn't open the last two times I've been over and would love to go in there.) |

According to the ASF website, Schmitt will be there. Read the description of the event carefully. Neil Armstrong was at the Apollo 16 40th unannounced, so I'd assume he will be at the Apollo 17 event also. I have a platinum plus ticket and cannot wait! |

I'm guessing that Neil will show up for the Apollo 17 40th celebration (although I have no information that says he will be there). He did attend the Apollo 15 and Apollo 16 events, but they were held separately from the November autograph show. He attended the Apollo 12 40th celebration, which was also held during the Nov autograph show, but unlike the Apollo 15 and Apollo 16 celebrations, there was no opportunity to meet him or get pictures. Granted there was the initial throng of well-wishers that surged toward him when he entered, but security broke that up very quickly. But if he does attend the Apollo 17 40th, like past events I would expect him to speak, and Neil is a superb speaker so you will not be disappointed if it happens. |

One thing I noticed is that the dinner is being held in the Saturn V center now where it was previously listed as being at the hotel. I'm excited about this change as I've not had the opportunity to attend the other Apollo anniversary events held there. |

Where are you guys finding these? I cannot find any mention of an Apollo 17 event on the ASF website. I'm looking under Calendar of Events. Thank you. |

Our Apollo 17 dinner is being wrapped up into the Autograph Show weekend. We have moved the dinner to the Apollo/Saturn V Center instead of the hotel. The dinner, however, will be casual. Right now you can buy tickets just to the Apollo 17 dinner, or you can purchase one of the two remaining package options for the weekend. |

Could you define "casual"? If everyone else is in a suit, I don't want to stick out in the crowd. |

It's safe to say business casual but final details will be included in your confirmation email before the event. This will definitely not be along the same lines as induction with fancy gowns and tuxedos. |
