Just spent the evening with Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan, and Jim Lovell at the Lindbergh Foundation's 35th Anniversary. Very small number of people. Walked onto the outdoor balcony at The Explorers Club and there was Neil, standing all alone. Spent several minutes just chatting and taking a few photos. Then enjoyed Cernan's and Lovell's company - great men and wonderful conversationalists! Any other cSer's there? For me, a red letter day. |

I believe the event was invitation-only? But, I've enjoyed Explorers Club events in the past - saw Armstrong speak at their annual dinner held at the Waldorf back in 2002 or so. And met Mugrave and Chiao through EC events. If you go to their club in NYC, they have a flag from Apollo 13, still wrapped up. I believe it was a flag flown for the club, not the one that was to have been deployed on the moon. |

I saw it! With a flag carried and signed by the Apollo 8 crew and also in the display - a flag carried on Apollo 15 to the moon and crew-signed. |

At the dinner, Cernan led off, Neil spoke of his friendship with "Slim" Lindbergh and Lovell read a post-Apollo 8 letter from Charles Lindbergh. All in all, a wonderful event with a group of men who lived "Mankind's Greatest Adventure." | |
