I live in Suffolk in the east of England. Last weekend I travelled across to Shropshire to see my parents, a pre Christmas trip to take over Christmas presents and so on. Now Shropshire is quite rural, I grew up there and very little seemed to happen. So I picked up the local newspaper to read about usual local news - and my jaw dropped - Neil Armstrong had just visited the county town. But world famous astronaut Neil Armstrong, now 80, made a “giant leap” into Shrewsbury, it has emerged today. Mr Armstrong, who shot to fame during the moon mission with Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, spent a quiet lunch at the Osteria da Paolo Italian restaurant last Saturday as part of a brief visit to the town.He was in Shropshire with friends to visit Longnor-based mechanical clock repairer Richard Higgins, who then recommended they had lunch at the Shrewsbury town centre restaurant. And despite seeking to avoid the spotlight over the past few decades, Mr Armstrong spent an hour-and-a-half at the Hills Lane restaurant and happily posed with star-struck restaurant staff for photographs before travelling to London. Apart from Mr Armstrong’s party of 12, restaurant staff said about a dozen further people were in the restaurant at the time and believe only one couple recognised him. My favourite sentence is that Neil "said if he was in Shrewsbury again he would call in for a meal."If only I had gone up a few days before! |

I guess you also missed the book signing he did in the Shrewsbury branch of Waterstone's? A friend of mine was there by chance and got half a dozen copies of First Man signed.Okay, sorry I'm just kidding. <8P |

Place is probably over run with UK cS members. Trade probably gone through the roof! Wonder if we will see the plate, glass, knife and fork he used on eBay! Could he have dropped a lock of hair? I wonder? |

One of my friends lives in Shropshire! No way! It seems like that Mr. Armstrong has been getting around in the past few months. Any chances of him going to one of the final shuttle launches? |

I spent 2 years working during the construction of the new Theatre Severn on the Welsh bridge in Shrewsbury. Why couldn't it have been when I was there! |

Pity you aren't still at the theatre, working part time in the restaurant on the days when Moonwalkers feel the desire to roam around Shropshire trying to get their clocks fixed!I find this quite amusing... it cost me hundreds of euros to get a few minutes of Neil's time in Dublin a few years ago. I did get a photo though! Great story! |
