Coming up this Sunday on Dateline NBC:
Commemorate the anniversary of the space mission that made "Houston, we have a problem" a part of the American vernacular Sunday at 7 p.m. EDT, 6 p.m. CDT. Hear from NBC's Matt Lauer what it was like to interview the astronauts.

As I type this at 6:05 p.m. (Tucson, AZ) on NBC is what appears to be a really interesting Apollo 13 special.
Guess I missed the promos for this... Looks good.

I thought the program was fantastic. One minor inaccuracy however, was Capt. Lovell saying that the launch of Apollo 13 was reported on page 97 or somewhere in the New York Times. In fact the launch was the headline on the April 12, 1970 issue of the New York Times.

By the way, there were four cryo stir switches, not one: Fans H2 1&2, O2 1&2. No tank heaters were activated for the cryo stirs.

I thought it was pretty solid. It gave a large audience a chance to relive the Apollo 13 mission. Definitely worth seeing.
There are further interviews available online with others involved with the Apollo 13 mission including Jack Lousma, Joe Kerwin and Sy Liebergot.

Even though I lived through this, and have even met two of the crew, Capt. Lovell at least twice, this story is still fascinating... like I am telling you all something you don't know.
Because of their success, there are parts of this story that make you smile and snicker and laugh... and every ONE of the people involved with getting these guys home must be so very, very proud of their accomplishment!
I did not see it Sunday night, so I am glad collectSPACE and NBC has made this available to see online. Cheers and HAPPY anniversary!

Lovell's quip about "the launch was covered on page 97 of The New York Times" was meant to be a humorous commentary of how quickly the American media was losing interest in Apollo by April 1970. I recall all three networks covering the launch live. The cool thing was NASA had mounted a color television camera on the top of the LUT, so we saw the Saturn V launch live as it raced past the top of the LUT in full color. However, in the two days following the launch, there was frustrating little televsion coverage whatsoever. That all changed after the explosion.

Good program I liked it. I always like seeing fresh new interviews with the astronauts. Although, I don't think I learned anything new from it, I've read so many books and seen all the documentaries, but it was good to see a full hour of it on the 40th anniversary.
