NASA release
NASA Takes Tweetups to New Heights

Join us Oct. 21 in Washington for a live, ultra-long distance Tweetup with astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Advance registration is required

NASA will host a unique Tweetup with a live link to International Space Station crew members Nicole Stott and Jeff Williams, who are speeding about 210 miles above the Earth at five miles a second.

The Tweetup is from 10 a.m. to noon EDT on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at NASA Headquarters in Washington. Tweeps will be given a chance to ask the astronauts questions and learn more about what life is like in space.

A Tweetup is an informal meeting of people who use the social messaging site Twitter. This Tweetup is an opportunity for attendees at NASA Headquarters in Washington to ask questions to the space station crew members and the staff behind the tweets on @NASA. Plus, you'll get to mingle with other space-minded Tweeps.

The event will include a “meet and greet" session and a question and answer period with the astronauts.

Williams is known on Twitter as @Astro_Jeff. Stott is @Astro_Nicole.

Williams currently is a flight engineer for the Expedition 21 crew and later will command Expedition 22. He will spend six months in space. Williams will become the first space station commander to share his experiences using Twitter.

Stott is making her first journey into orbit. She is scheduled to live and work aboard the station for more than two months. Stott will remain on board until the STS-129 shuttle mission in November.

Space is limited and advance registration is mandatory. Submissions will be accepted on this Web page beginning at 10 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, Oct. 6. This Tweetup can accommodate 35 people, and the spots will be allocated based on the order of registration. Because of the limited number of spots available, NASA will accept registration submissions beyond capacity to create a waitlist for the event. Those who successfully register and those on the waitlist will be notified by e-mail prior to the event. Registrations for this Tweetup are limited to one person per entry. If you can't make this Tweetup, don't despair; NASA is planning others in the near future at various agency locations.

Please note NASA Headquarters is a government facility. All Tweetup participants must be registered in advance. To be admitted, you will need to show a government-issued identification (driver's license or passport) that matches the name provided on the registration. Those without proper identification cannot be admitted.

All registrants must be at least 18 years old.
