I have always wanted to go to one of the shuttle crew homecomings at Ellington Field and have always wondered the following: - Are these free and open to the public? If not, do I need tickets or something?
- Are astronauts usually friendly and open to meet and greet with people?
Anyone been to one of these? |

To answer your questions: - Yes, they are free and open to the public. No tickets are needed (or offered). The gates open about an hour before the scheduled start time.
- It is the crew's prerogative, but generally speaking, as these events are mostly attended by their friends, family members and co-workers, the astronauts spend some time meeting with the crowd following their remarks.
For a general idea of the event, see photos from STS-122, STS-123 and STS-124. |
