Hi space fans - there is a lot going on out here in JPL land for the 50th anniversary of Explorer 1.

The OASIS/NSS chapter in Long Beach, CA will have a lecture about the history of the first great space race at Long Beach Library on Feb. 9th, at 1 P.M. The speaker is Jim Busby of the Aerospace Legacy Foundation.

JPL is premiering a new film at Caltech called "Beginnings of the Space Age" about those first satellite days. For more info visit this website.

Also astronaut Rusty Schweickart will be lecturing at Fullerton College, entitled, "Asteroid Impact: Protecting the Earth" on Feb. 5. For info see this website.

J.M. Busby
