A colleague at the Fleet Science Center is telling me (more confirmation, please check direct with them):Astronaut Rick Hieb will be there Saturday, May 27 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Event free with ticket purchase - see the bottom of this page for general ticket details (the event will be posted on this page soon also): http://www.rhfleet.org/site/education/weekendtalk.html From 2-3 Hieb will make a presentation in the Lecture Hall about space flight followed by a recognition ceremony for essay contest winners. Then the public is invited to go on tours of the Challenger Learning Center from 3-5. At 5:00, it is planned that Hieb will sign photos and pass out mission patches at a table outside of the CLC (which is still inside the building).

I met Hieb last year at the KSCVC Astronaut Encounter stage with Bruce McCandless during the AHOF weekend and he's a very friendly guy. Anyone attending this event will have a very good time! |

I attended this yesterday, turned out to be a great event! You are correct, Rob, he's an excellent, dynamic, funny speaker. He showed a lot of footage from his flights, including some DoD footage from his first flight which I have never seen before... his account of the first three-person shuttle spacewalk and grabbing a satellite with his hands was just incredible. He handed out free patches from his missions, was great with all the kids - very impressive!Browsing in the bookstore, I noticed that in addition to a number of signed books left from prior signing events (including copies of Rocketman signed by Nancy Conrad with the special Pete Conrad hand embossing) - they had copies of Apogee Book's Apollo 12 reports - Volumes 1 and 2 - both for only $10 each! That's a great price for people who don't have them yet. FF | |
