What happened to the award for Neil Armstrong in Union Terminal Cincinnati Tues? Is this open to the public because it looks like all information has disappeared.

I found out that this is a closed event, and only VIP's (and a couple of school groups) will be able to attend.

Thats a shame that this turned into a closed event. I had plans on going down to see the presentation, so I am glad this was posted. Does anyone know how many of the presentations so far have actually been open to the public or is this a rare case. I went to The Glen one but they had poor viewing for most of the public that went (however, the photos at the end were a real highlight.)

I agree that it is a shame- Very few opertunities to see Astronauts occur in Ohio (even though many are from Ohio) and the visit to the museum would have been a great trip after the event. Nothing is worse than watching an event on TV that is taking place just down the road. I guess we need to become VIP's.

Why are the moon rocks they're giving them so darn small?

Don't get me wrong, big or small, a moon rock is a moon rock, but if you're going to have a display, at least make it big enough to see it from a distance.

Besides, these guys busted their....stones (pun intended).... to get those rocks to earth. They deserve a bigger rock.

It was a shame that it was not an open event.

I, as well as a few other CSers, were fortunate to hear a very passionate and very patriotic Neil Armstrong speak at the Gettysburg National Cemetary last Memorial Day.

It was a very moving experience.

Armstrong can be quite an eloquent speaker when he wants to be, but he sure can get into the technical weeds, too. I saw a recording of the gathering of astronauts at the Naval Aviation Museum back in the 90's. Roy Neal asked Armstrong what he felt as he was bringing Eagle in for the landing on the moon, and Armstrong went into a lengthy discussion about the descent engine's being the first throttleable rocket engine and cavitation and etc etc, but never got to the question that was asked. It sounded like he was lecturing his university class. Later in the program, a Boy Scout asked him what it was like to walk on the moon, and Armstrong beamed and said, "It was really, REALLY fun!"--which seemed so much more believable and from the heart.

NASA TV has been showing the Armstrong event throughout the day. In the space of 2 hours I caught it twice.......

Regards,

Rick.

The audio of Armstrong's speech is now available as an MP3 on collectSPACE and can be downloaded via our article:
NASA gives Neil Armstrong a moon rock

(The file is 26 mb but depending on how your browser and software are configured, should start playing immediately.)

All times are CT (US)
