The Challenger Learning Center of Kansas held their grand opening today. I was able to attend and it was very nice. The boy scouts started everything off with a flag ceremony followed by a presentation of 7 roses by the children of the employees of the center, 1 for each of the crew members lost on challenger. That presentation was followed by 73 seconds of silence to honor the crew.
The director of Education for the state of Kansas spoke briefly followed by a short talk by June Scobee Rogers, widow of Commander Dick Scobee.
Kevin Ikenberry, the executive director and his staff offered tours and refreshments. They also flew a mission today and quite a bit of media was on hand for the event.
Overall, everything was wonderful. The new learning center will host students and adults from Kansas and northern Oklahoma..
