From the Yahoo Astronauts Group leaders Al Hallonquist and Steve Zarelli :
quote:
The auction will terminate on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00PM EST. This allows it to go later but still allow Europe to not have to stay up until 4AM.

Send your bids to Steve Zarelli zipper68@gmail.com and Al Hallonquist albatron@aol.com - they will be receieved with the time of the email for tie breakers, i.e, Jim Ray Smith and Billy Bob Hargroovey submit bids of $23 for item 87. Jim Ray's bid comes in at 4:29PM, Billy Bobs at 3:08PM. Billy Bobs is the high bid as he was first. Of course, Jim Ray can up his bid.

If a bidder wants to see a scan, please contact the seller direct. Although the descriptions are brief, we are for the most part grizzled veterans here. <G> But always feel free to contact the seller. It just got too time consuming to find a way to uplink all the scans. Help a brother or two out here. <G>

Steve has put together an auction webpage and we will try our best to update it daily. The website is: http://www.zipper68.com/CharityAuction.htm All of the items are listed (there may be 1 or 2 more to go and will be on tomorrow).

Once the auction closes, Al will notify the seller/winning bidder at the same time - and you guys can make arrangements. To make it easier to prove payment (although I cannot imagine ANY list member who would try to scam anything on this) - all payments will be sent to Al Hallonquist. Unless there is a request as to where to send the monies from the seller, Al will divide the pot equally between the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Once payment is received, Al will contact the seller to ship the item. Most sellers have agreed to conver shipping as part of the charity. It would be a nice gesture for the winning bidder to help in that but that's between the two of you.

That pretty much sums it up - Im sure there will be more questions and always feel free to ask. But remember, this is NOT a professional auction - nor put together with professional auction software. Working together is the impetus for this to begin with. And please PLEASE be generous in your bidding. Please make this a success and not let 1 item go unbid on.

Thanks for your participation! As you can see, some of the offerings have been VERY generous - thanks to all who have donated to this. And thanks to everyone who will bid! HOPEFULLY thats EVERY list member!

Thanks Robert:

Im thrilled to report that in the first 24 hours alone we've received $895 in bids! Some bids came in later than that that have not been posted yet, and we are adding some more items this evening such as 2 signed Beta's!

Some really nice stuff there - if you have not been to the site, please check there and check often. You do NOT have to be a yahoogroups member to participate, this is solely to help those affected by Katrina and is a time to pull together.

If anyone is concerned about the tax issue (someone that is NOT a list member has been emailing list members stirring this pot with this) then please let me lay that issue to rest. I posted a lengthy post to the group about this last night but the synopsis is, the winning bidders will send payment to me as a check or money order MADE OUT TO the specified charity (the seller has first dibs on the charity - then the bidder if the seller has no preference - then I split it evenly between the 2 designated ones if neither has a preference). This eliminates, as the accusation was made, that Steve Zarelli or I would take the tax break. We would not have taken it in any event, in fact, when the smoke settles we will be out of pocket.

Overseas bidders will be dealt with in a manner easy and amenable to them on an individual basis.

Because this is about helping, and drawing together. As it SHOULD be.

Thanks for all who have particpated and please, bid early and bid OFTEN. Remember this is a CHARITY auction and not about value, but about helping.

Cheers!

Al

How come im the only one popsting on this thread when theres a TON of cSers participating.

Just a reminder, the auction ends tonight at 7PM EST - so please get your bids IN. We are over $4000 so far and Im sure there'll be lots of attempted sniping....<G> But remember this doesnt work the way eBay does, sniping may cause you to lose out as you cant up your bid, so bid the max!

Cheers!

Well, the auction brought in over $5k... pretty cool. I feel real good about being part of the space collecting community sometimes and this is one of the high points. Thanks for the great effort to both Steve and Al. Thanks to everyone who bid and who donated. It is nice to see so many people work together as a community.

Kind Regards

I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Eddie Bizub. Today I received my "winnings" from the charity auction (Apollo 12 crew signed cover, item #69) and it is a FANTASTIC cover. Huge tip of the mad props beanie to Eddie for donating such a superb item... it really is IMMACULATE and is now one of the pride and joy's in my collection. I'd also like to thank Eddie for his kindness and generosity for the fantastic "extra" he sent with the cover.... that really went way above and beyond Eddie and I offer my sincere thanks... you're one in a million!!

Best regards to all, Derek
