Happy Birthday to Rick! I was there at KSC for Endeavour's maiden launch, STS-49, and also the Return To Flight festivities where I met with Hieb and Bruce McCandless! Both, very nice guys! |

I met Rick at RocketTown last year where he shared a great story. When training in the swimming pool for up to 8-9 hours at a time, the astronauts got pretty hungry. Apparently they didn't get the foodstick when training that they had when actually doing the spacewalk ($$$). Therefore he and his buddies would hit the Wendy's across from JSC and chow down a couple double cheeseburgers prior to suiting up and hitting the pool. Not everything is as high tech as we might sometimes think. | |
