SpaceShipOne will be landing at Wright Patterson Air Base sometime around 6pm on July 31st and leaving around 9am on Mon Aug. 1st and make a fly over the Wright Memorial before heading to Washington.
Anyone have any information on where the best place is to see the landing?
Or anyone that has more information on this major event?

Looks like my link doesn't work. Here is the article in part that appears in Sundays July 31 paper and is online at daytondailynews.com.

The SpaceShipOne rocketplane and its White Knight carrier jet are scheduled to arrive at 5pm at Wright-Pat, where they will stay overnight before taking off to Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

Test pilot Mike Melville will speak to the public at the Wright Memorial Park at 8:30 a.m. Monday, followed by a low fly-by over the park and Huffman Prarie between 9 and 9:30a.m. Gates will open at 8:00a.m.

Boy,
Dayton really dropped the ball on this one.
This is the last time this craft will ever fly and there is no way you are going to see it land unless you are lucky and just happen to see it in the sky. I called all over Dayton and most (including the people of Wright Pat.) didn't even know that SpaceShipOne was coming in. There was a couple of small notes written in the Dayton paper, but everything was vague.
I was told by the security of Wright Pat. that if I tried to watch the craft land anywhere near the base, I could loose my camera or face other charges.
I guess my only oppertunity to see it is to be there at 8am in the morning.
I just don't understand why this is not all over the news and why the landing won't be open to the people to see.
I imagine it will be the same way in Washington when it lands on Monday.

3pm eastern time, SpaceShipOne just took off for Dayton. It left from Oshkosh airshow. Even the broadcasters in Oshkosh don't know that it will be making a stop in Dayton. They are saying that the craft will be flying direct to Washington and no one will ever see it take off and fly again. (Interesting how big a secret the stop in Dayton is)

What a wonderful event,
About 200 people watched from the Wright Bros. Memorial as Mike Melvill gave a breif speech early this morning. After that he took some questions, signed some autographs, then ran to his car, drove to the air base and set up to fly the very last flight of SpaceShipOne. The flight was led by a Wright Brothers airplane with White Knight and SpaceShipOne directly behind flying first over the Wright Brothers flying site, then directly in front of us watching from the Memorial hillside. A few minutes later we could see the craft high in the sky heading for Dullas Airport.

I was on the tarmac waiting for clearance to taxi to the runway and what should be about 100 feet away? The White Knight and Space Ship One. They had been unmated and were just sitting there near the Dulles taxiway. I could reach out and touch them both.

Take about timing.

SpaceShipOne is presently sitting beside the Concord in the hanger at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center covered with a blue tarp. I was told that it has been there since it landed and only a couple of people have relized what it was. If you get close to it, you can see the aircraft- the tarp is slightly transparent and if your lucky maybe a kid will come along and accidently pull the tarp off so you can get a shot.
On another note they told me at the museum that White Knight will be placed (later) in the Center.

From my understanding, the "unveiling" of SS1 at the downtown NASM, has been pushed back from Sept. 29, to early to mid October
