What: NASA's Space Shuttle program returns to flight with the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery, NASA's first space shuttle launch since the tragic loss of Columbia and its crew in February 2003. The launch of Discovery with its crew of seven astronauts will be broadcast live on a large screen with a state-of-the-art sound system in the LeFrak Theater at the American Museum of Natural History. A Museum scientist and a Museum educator will be on hand to narrate the launch and join the rest of the world watching the Space Shuttle's return to flight.
The public also will have the chance to participate in a live call-in program linked via satellite to Cape Canaveral and being produced there by NASA for the Museum and other institutions nationwide. Laura Danly, Astrophysics Education, American Museum of Natural History, will be on site at Cape Canaveral hosting the live program, which will feature expert speakers including NASA astronaut Nicholas J.
