From the BBC News website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4565937.stm :

England captain David Beckham has said he would consider becoming an astronaut and going to the Moon when he ends his playing career.
Asked in an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero if he would go there he said it would be "an experience" if he got the opportunity.

Maybe he's thinking of another kind of "trip" .

I think he lacks certain credentials. My cat has a better chance.

Beckham always seemed to me to be the type of person who has his head so far up his butt, he can't see the light of day.

No chance, buddy.

Well ... he has the money for a trip in Low Earth Orbit ... The Moon might be too far fetched !
In my opinion he makes more chance than Lance BASS did back in October 2002...

Considering Beckham`s fame here in Europe it wouldn`t be bad for spaceflight in general to have such a famous spokesperson though it`s certainly some years to go till that may become reality.

He and Victoria would make a nice couple in space !

Beckham may be good at football but he lacks an essential prerequisite for space..... A BRAIN!.

Stick to what you are good at son and leave the difficult stuff to the professionals!

Rick

He's already wired up to the Moon. Why not complete the journey?

If I was married to one of the Spice Girls I would probably want to get as far away as I could too...

I've kicked a soccer ball a few times...
Does that count or would I have to endure the agony of turf toe to be considered?

Hi,
although I may risk some punches now, even as a soccer player I regard him as rather overestimated. His preprarations for flight so far consist in cutting his hair for better fitting into the space suit. On the other hand you can read every day in the news for what foolish things he spends lots of money, so why not invest it in space: He could pay a ticket for someone more suitable.

Sounds as if he might be quoted a bit out of context, 'though. Asked if we would like to go to the moon, who wouldn't say yes? And as for his footballing ability - well, if he wants to discover a Scottish grandmother, he could probably start tomorrow!
