Have heard a rumor that there will be an interview tonight (Wednesday) with her, anyone know anything about this?

Indeed:

(CBS) Wed., April 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT
NASA astronauts prepare for a historic and dangerous mission: the first space shuttle launch since the Columbia tragedy two years ago. Correspondent Dan Rather reports.

(Rather was at JSC last month around the same time the media spacewalk training demo occurred. Among other things, he was said to have participated in a landing simulation with Collins and Kelly.)

In tonight's interview on CBS by Dan Rather Shuttle Cmdr. Eileen Collins revealed, in a segment called "Going Uphill", that she was afraid of roller coasters. This is in spite of the fact that next month's Discovery launch will be her 4th shuttle mission and the shuttle reaches speeds of 17,000 mph with 77-million horsepower. She said that she "lives with the danger."

Dan Rather, interviewing a NASA Director, was told that cameras have been installed on the shuttle to image the wings, in addition to many new sensors and 20 or more improvements for safety. There was speculation that NASA policy had been "detrimental to safety" before Columbia and that NASA knew that something was wrong with Columbia, having seen videos of the insulation hitting the wing at the shuttle launch.

The shuttle will dock with the ISS if there is a problem. It will be jettisoned if necessary and the crew will wait for a rescue on the ISS. The missions are still as risky as they were before Columbia's demise. There are no tools aboard to make major repairs, although minor repairs can be attempted.

I was impressed with her confidence in the shuttle. []

Crud...I missed that one. I guess the interview was covered pretty well in that article.

I'm glad this got posted as I would not have known about it otherwise. I'm surprised that CBS showed the interview almost a month before the launch and didn't wait closer to the actual launch. Overall a pretty good segment, I just wish they would have talked a little about the mission itself.
