--Boeing, Vice President and Program Manager - Space Shuttle
NASA Systems
Come spend the evening with AIAA as we have the great honor to host Stephen S. Oswald as he gives a presentation about the operations and ongoing preparations for the
"Return to Flight" of America's Space Shuttle.
This is indeed a rare opportunity for the local Los Angeles
community to have a presentation about
this topic from such an influential and well-informed source
only a short time before the NASA Flight
Readiness Review and only a few weeks before the scheduled
launch date of STS-114 with Space Shuttle
Discovery on mission to the International Space Station.
Stephen S. Oswald leads Boeing in its role as the major
subcontractor to United Space Alliance in
support of its operations contract with NASA's Space Shuttle
program. A former naval officer and
NASA astronaut, Oswald is now responsible for overall direction
and successful execution of Boeing's
Space Shuttle program.
After leaving active naval service in 1983, Mr. Oswald was a
corporate test pilot before he joined
NASA as a member of the astronaut class of 1985. A veteran of
three Space Shuttle missions, Oswald
has logged 33 days in space, and has accumulated over 7500
flight hours in over 40 different aircraft
types.
While with NASA, Mr. Oswald served as Deputy Associate
Administrator for Space Operations at NASA
Headquarters in Washington, DC. And, as a navy reservist, he
was the Director of the Naval Space
Reserve Program and served as Deputy Commander of a
Washington-based Joint Task Force. He has
commanded three different Naval Reserve Units, and currently
holds the rank of Rear Admiral in the
United States Navy Reserve.
