An earthquake centered near the Dec. 25th one occurred at 16:10 UTC (10:10am Houston time) today and reports indicate its strength as being 8.2-8.5 on the Richter scale. Any tsunami waves will not yet have reached India/Sri Lankan or Thai shores at the time of this posting.

One of my co-workers is currently in Thailand, helping to identify remains from December's tsunami.

Everyone here is holding their breath.

Hi Scott and James,
Just saw on the British TV News tonight,
one does not know =[What lies under these Oceans} and to find out the same areas have been hit again. James- hope your friend will be okay-very sad-I send you my best wishes. I have a friend who works at our local airport-as an AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER-
he has a TIA Girlfriend, and they are presently out in Thailand or Pucket-somwhere in that region-they owned a resturant-which went in to the flood waters-
think they live there a lot, so now I am waiting to hear from them, my pilot friends, and others, this afternoon I went flying in a light aircraft, also a Chopper, and all our thoughts were thinking about our friends. So now-James- I will be wishing your friend is safe?
All the best hope you had a good Easter, hope to see you james in May for the Space Shuttle STS

Haha. Believe it or not, almost no one wears a cowboy hat here, though some do wear boots. Lots of people drive a pickup truck (including me).

Do you mean "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait? That is a classic country song. My apologies if there is one by the name you mention, as I do not listen to much country music. Giang and I saw Elton John (aka Reg Dwight from Pinner) in Houston last night and there's some Bass ale (if my memory serves me correctly(?)) for you if you ever drop by.

Best to y'all,
Scott

"(Is this the way to) Amarillo" is the song - a 1971 hit by English (Yorkshire) singer Tony Christie - who has still never visited Amarillo! He's another Tom Jones kind of singer - more pop than C+W. If you grew up in England, you knew this song (whether you liked it or not!)

Francis,

Amarillo are about to have a visit from the said Tony Christie! With the 'revival' of the song BBC Radio Leeds did a live link last week with their Amarillo counterparts and the presenter (from KGNC? I think) mentioned TC would be visiting there soon.

The presenter had heard of the song but only as a minor hit by it's writer, Neil Sedaka (now I did not know that...).

I think Tony Christie would be flattered to be described as like Tom Jones !

What seventies hit will be revived next???

Sorry to be disrespectful to the topic with my last post. Thankfully it would seem that the feared tsunami hasn't materialised.

Yes, isn't that something? Tsunami sure are a mysterious phenomenon. Hopefully they'll have that warning system up before the next one happens.

Here's a link to a Seismic Monitoring web site.

You would be surprised to learn how many earthquakes happen on a daily basis.

That's true - they happen all the time. But a huge 8.7, considering what happened last December, gave people pause.
