In addition to Buzz Aldrin (previously noted on Sightings), several active astronauts will be staffing NASA's exhibit at the "Celebration of Freedom" event today (4:00pm - 6:00pm) at the Ellipse across the street from Constitution Hall in Washington, DC. They are Scott Altman, Franklin Chang-Diaz, Roger Crouch, Anna Fisher, Michael Foale, Paul Richards and Carl Walz. |

Holy Cow! Hope the snow doesn't scare them off! Anybody in the area, see you there! I'll be in the black overcoat and red shirt! |

In addition to Aldrin - during a tribute to the astronauts led by "Apollo 13" actor Gary Sinese - Gene Cernan, Dick Gordon, Jack Schmitt and Al Worden were brought on stage. (MSNBC's coverage was limited, so I did not see if any of them spoke.) |

The Washington Post on comments by Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL) about Buzz Aldrin at inaugural events yesterday: Feeney lauded Aldrin as the second man to walk on the moon, following " Neil Young." Huh? Certainly he meant Neil Armstrong?"We have an official position: I did not intend to say that it was Buzz Aldrin and Neil Young who were the first two men on the moon," Feeney told us yesterday. "Number two, we are printing a full retraction. And number three, it was David Crosby who I intended to say was one of the first men on the moon." |

Hey, at least he didn't say the third crew member was "Judy Collins"!  |

I did attend this event, but did not stick around for any of the program, so missed Buzz, Al et al. Was able to get 3 items signed by Mike Foale, 1 by Paul Richards and 1 by Carl Walz, Roger Crouch was also there at the time but did not need any auto's from him. Unfortunately missed Anna, Franklin and Scott, they had to leave early for flights. The exhibit actually opened around 1:00, I got there around 4:15, and the exhibit closed @ 4:45. All in all, great time and added 5 litho's to my collection! |
