"The Dish" has to be one of my favorite space movies. I have it on DVD and have watched it many times. To bad the DVD didn't come with many extras. Best part was when the band plays theme from Hawaii five-O as the national anthem! I think I'll have to watch it tonight! Merry Christmas to all you "Space Nuts" |

Hi Brenda,Uh oh ... too much of that splendid Aussie wine for you. Those scenes you mention were actually in the movie, "The Right Stuff." "The Dish" is a delightful film about a small group of engineers working at the Parkes radio telescope during the Apollo 11 mission. It is an absolute scream, and really takes you back to those wonderful days. Colin |

I'd never seen The Dish until yesterday .And - even then - missed first half since my wife 'forgot' to call me to say it was on. Never mind it was good fun . I liked the bit where they climb onto the dish itself and sit! And where the lady is reciting poems to the assembled dignitaries in front of the tv set when the live images of Neil's first steps onto Moon start appearing - and she wouldn't move without being bundled out of the way :-) Phill

The Australian/New Zealand release of The Dish has absolutely fantastic special features on it - everything form original newsreels of construction of the telescope to a section called "The Bits we liked but couldn;t use" which is all of the footage, documentaries etc that the filmmakers gathered but couldn't fit in - like interviews with the women who made the suits used for the EVA. If you've got a multizone, I'd highly recommend getting this version for the special features alone!CHeers Craig from Auckland |

To bad you can't find that in the states! Sounds like it would be worth viewing. Maybe it will be reissued here with those extras someday. |

Hi there BrendaGlad I could help (-: Just one thing to watch out for is customs charges. I think for a single DVD it may pass under the limit that charges are incurred, but best that you know about it. Have a great trip to Florida - I'd love to go there myself one day. All the best Eilis |

Hey BrendaI'm always in favour of ordering space goodness! 4/5 weeks at that price sounds about right - just be careful and see if you can get it insured - the longer it takes the longer the risk of it getting lost. Just so you know...I'm an Information Techno-woman - my name isn't exactly the easiest to guess! (-: All the best Eilis [This message has been edited by eilisk (edited December 17, 2004).] |

I love this film. The opening credit Montage of space events leading up to Apollo 11 is a feast for any Space Nut. Who among us can avoid blurting out the names of the astronauts or the flights as it goes on? I particularly liked the son of the Mayor of Parkes who was probably like all of us; fascinated by all this, knowing all the little details in a world that has a hard time grasping the just the basics of the Moonlanding. During one of my five minute radio NASA updates that I do on Sportsradio 610 in Philadelphia about a year ago, they played a sound byte from the movie as I was talking. It was the one where one of the techs says " I like that Cliff he always goes for it!" |

Hi againsorry I've been away fromt he computer for a little bit and missed the ordering info conversation. If anyone wants a region 4 edition I can get one from the local store here for $29.95NZ and and Ship Air Mail for $16.95NZ - I think the conversion works favourably into US$. Cheers Craig |
