Not that any of us can attend (or will likely ever hear what was discussed) but interesting none-the-less...

Renaissance Weekend's 24th Year Brings National Leaders to Charleston
The Renaissance Institute Press Release

quote:
Renaissance Weekend, the family retreat for innovative leaders from diverse fields, convenes December 28th - January 1st in Charleston, South Carolina.

More than 1,200 "movers-and-shakers" from across the nation will exchange views in 400 lectures, seminars, panel discussions and workshops from 8 a.m. till midnight each day. The non-partisan gathering encourages divergent views among leaders in business and finance, education, religion, law and medicine, government, the media, science and technology, sports, non-profits, and the arts.

Skipping ahead...
quote:
The group will include more than 40 Nobel Laureates, MacArthur "Genius" Award-winners, Rhodes, Marshall and Fulbright Scholars, Pulitzer-, Emmy-, Tony-, and Grammy Prize-winners, a dozen retired generals and admirals, scores of major figures in business, journalism, science, medicine and law. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and Nobel Peace Prize-winner David Trimble, the former First Minister of Northern Ireland, will be required to wear 4x6-inch nametags around their necks like every other participant, except current or former heads of state.

The depth of experience in any given field is illustrated by one scheduled panel on "Space Exploration" which will include Gemini and Apollo astronaut James Lovell, as well as four other astronauts, including retired U.S. Marine Corps General Charles Bolden.

And from the RI website...
quote:
All Renaissance Weekend panel discussions are strictly "off-the-record," which has been the policy since the first Weekend in 1981.

A participant's express permission is required for quotes or attribution, although no restriction is placed on participants using their own Renaissance remarks elsewhere.

Media references may be made only to topics and discussion themes or to general descriptions of the gathering. Journalists are requested not to seek interviews with fellow participants so as not to distract them from family time, recreation or participation in discussions.

My recollection is that President Clinton used to attend Renaissance Weekend while he was in office. I wonder if he will be there.

All times are CT (US)
