I am doing an outside radio broadcast for BBC Radio tomorrow to cover the early morning Perseid meteor shower . These meteors are believed to be comet debris from Comet Swift Tuttle.USA readers may have clearer skies and therefore better chance than we do in UK of observing the anticipated one per minute meteorites streaking across the late night Wednesday/early Thursday morning skies. Most will be impacting at 132,000 mph as the earth moves through the Perseid shower swarm. The UK is also having a Great British Meteorite Hunt in September with special radio and tv programmes to coincide with the just over 0.01 Au (15 million km) approach of asteroid Toutatis on 29 September. I'll be taking along parts of the Barwell UK meteorite ,part of Zagami Mars-origin (?) and Murchinson (aminos) meteorites for the broadcast as well. Phill Parker UK

That's interesting, but I doubt that it was actually a Perseid that did it. The debris is quite small and I don't think any Perseid meteorites have ever been documented before. If it was a Perseid it would be quite a surprise.
