http://www.ssc.nasa.gov/Apollo11/Apollo11.html The 35th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing at NASA Stennis Space Center (SSC) on Tuesday, July 20:
The celebration begins at 10 a.m. with the planting of a "Moon Tree" on the grounds of StenniSphere, the visitor center at SSC. Moon Trees are descended from seeds carried to the Moon and back by Apollo 14 astronaut and longtime Mississippi Coast resident Stuart Roosa.
At 11 a.m., StenniSphere will unveil its new stage play, "The Eagle Has Landed," an upbeat look at Apollo 11 and the vision for the future of space exploration produced in partnership with WINGS, the performing arts division of the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport.
The day's activities are complemented by StenniSphere's new Apollo exhibit, which traces the history of the program and explains SSC's important role in sending Americans to the Moon. Items on display include an authentic Moon rock and Apollo-era spacesuits.
