I have openend a space musuem called moonrocks. It is located in Bedford Hills, N.Y. The venue is dedicated to the glory days af NASA when people gave 150% effort to achive the goal of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth within a decade. That was quite an amazing feat. (So was Rutan's acomplishment a couple of days ago) Anyway Moonrocks contains flown space artifact including flown to the lunar surface artifacts. For example Buzz Aldrin's Lunar Module PPK is there as well as a flown to the surface flag in eagle and an Apollo-soyouz flown flag presented to Deke slayton on a presentation piece signed by Chris Kraft. There are many other artifacts and exhibits such as actual flight suits, Space suit replicas and a full scale command module that is currently being built (see www.gerathsdesign.com), 1/48 scale models of redstone, Atlas, Titan. Saturn 1B and SaturnV as well as space artwork. Moonrockcks also feature a full music performanc stage and audio and video professional recoeding capabilities. You will also notice a "Beatles" theme. Moonrocks is designed to inspire young minds to dream and motivate. Admission is free. This is my labor of love that I have funded entirely by myself. We must not let the glory days af NASA be forgotten and the achivement of all the dedicated people that made these missions possible. Take a look a www.moonrocksentertainment.com. The space artifacts are not shown so that the visitor will get a glimpes of the artifact first hand thus added to the experience. The grand opening is July 9 at 8:00 PM RK[This message has been edited by collectSPACE Admin (edited June 23, 2004).] |

If it were not so far from Georgia, I would be there. I'm sure tonight will be a memorable event. |

MoonRocks is about 20 minutes from my house. I'll have to stop by in the near future. Too bad I can't make it this evening. However, I'm looking forward to seeing Dana's CM when it arrives. -tracy

Bizarre. Beatles and Apollo, two subjects my son and I love! We were just checking to see if we could get up to the Beatlemania concert in Quebec City next week! Just how do you swing a Beatlemania concert for 75 people?Anyway, all the best with this venture. If we're ever in your neck of the woods we will certainly drop in. John |

Since the CDR is a friend, my wife and I made the trip down to Moonrocks last night and except of the traffic just past Hartford it was a smooth ride from Boston down to New York. Patti and I stopped at the hotel for a quick change and off we went to the club. The place was packed by the time we got there, but parking is easy. Bob Kulacz has taken an old garage and changed it into a combination recording studio, performance stage and space museum. It is something to see. For a description, picture a substantial hall filled wall to wall with space artifacts, musical recording equipment and Beatles memorabilia. As you walk through the door there are five Nick Proach built 1/48 scale models of all Apollo era manned launch vehicles. They were huge as the Saturn V model is close to 8 feet tall. Then, hung on the walls are such treats as flight suits from Mitchell, Scott and Slayton. I also fixated on the flown flags from Apollo 8, 12, 13 and Apollo 15. This is just a taste of what is at Moonrocks. Someone on this thread has asked how Bob brought in Beatlemania for 75 people. Bob is a consummate bass player with some pretty decent connections in the local music industry, so he was able to bring in a very good band. Soon it was time for the performance, Bob got up to introduce the band and launch the club. He saved the best artifacts for his speech about Moonrocks, it’s theme of space and music (the Beatles were also part of the Sixties) his dreams of the club’s success and how we, as a nation, had a dream, set a goal and attained it by walking on the moon. At that point, he brought out a PPK bag and a USA flag from the Apollo 11 mission, showed them to the audience. Bob told them that these artifacts had landed on the moon in the LM “Eagle.” The audience stopped for just that second of realization and then started clapping. It was a moving moment. Then Ed Sullivan’s voice boomed through the speakers introducing a new group from England and the show took off. This group was great. They did two one hour sets. The first set was their early compositions. Then the Beatles changed into Sgt Pepper costumes, launched into the intro song to the Sgt Pepper album and off we went into the second musical set. While we spent a lot of time dancing, I did manage to spend a little time in the ejection seat located on the floor near the stage. I did try the eject handle too. The show ended around 11PM, but lots of people hung around just enjoying the moment. We hung with Bob and Sue, his wife, for a while. Since we needed to hit the road early the next morning, we headed back to the hotel with our ears still ringing with the song, “Twist and Shout.” Good luck on the new venture. I drove past MoonRocks this afternoon to see where it's located. I used to live right around the corner [on Harris Road] many years ago. Can't wait to stick my nose in one day!Cheerz! Tracy

It does sound like it was a good night. Since it is only 20 minutes or so from my home, it is a particular pity I was in transit for a baptism this weekend. |
