Of particular interest:

UPI also learned the original class of candidates consisted of 12, but when informed they would not be flying the space shuttles, one candidate withdrew.

With the decision to retire the shuttle after the completion of the ISS, I figured that the chances of the astronauts of the class of 2004 flying the shuttle were slim. No astronauts have yet flown from the class of 1998 and 2000. No question the class of 2004 will have to either hope for a continuation of shuttle flights or until the next generation spacecraft is ready to fly.

A few of the non-US members of the 1998 class have flown, of course that was prior to being in the 1998 class. Mostly shuttle. One on Soyuz.

Eyharts flew on the Soyuz prior to being named part of the 1998 class of international astronauts. Roberto Vittori flew a Soyuz taxi mission (TM-34) in 2002.

All times are CT (US)
