What an exciting night! Those first few minutes when the signal went dead and everyone held their breath reminded me of all of those Apollo missions when we similarly waited for reacquisition of signal as the spacecraft zoomed around the dark side of the Moon for its Lunar Orbit Insertion.Wow! This is a great week for space exploration. The pictures from Stardust were amazing and now Spirit has landed safely... I can't wait to see those hi-res color images they promise.From the pan above it looks like they managed to hit an extremely flat area so it should be very easy going for the rover. Now we just have to wait a week before it can burn rubber and get out there...  |

Can you believe, it was at this moment I got disconnected from NASA TV? Was I tense until I could reconnect and find out what was happening! I was thinking that waiting to see if Spirit landed must be similar to what it felt like when everyone was waiting to see if the LM would touch down safely for the first moon landing. The Spirit pics are AWESOME! What a great year it's starting out to be for NASA.

Carrie, having done both(A11 and Spirit) watches, therre was a lot of similarity of emotion. Of cours A11 had a much larger audience, but the pep rally mood I felt with 170 people watching at Exploration Place Planetarium was awesome. Many stayed weel past midnight. There is something about being in a group of kindered spirits, much the same reason I enjoy it here. |
