Just returned from the Harrison Schmitt seminar at MIT. What a fantastic seminar. Very educational.And what an approachable, personable individual he is. While the small auditorium emptied out, a small group of us collectors was treated to autographs and conversation about everything from fussion reactors to old aircraft still flying. He signed my pilot logbook "Harrison H. Schmitt...Apollo 17" and seemed genuinely pleased to do so. Asked me what I flew and I told him a 1946 Globe Swift, to which a conversation ensued about the number of these aircraft still in existance. As I drove home from Cambridge, MA, I looked up at the sliver of a new moon shining in the western sky and realized it was indeed visited by special people. |

Thanks for that great story ejectr. I have never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Schmitt myself but everything I have read indicates he is a very genuine and nice person. |

Not to mention that anybody who could say "Aaah! You seen one earth you've seen them all," from the surface of the moon has got to be a man of sheer profundity.What a wonderful combination of wit and work ethic! It must have been a great experience to talk with him. I envy you. ------------------

I was right behind you along with Larry. Yes he was anice guy easy to talk to and gave a great lecture on the geology of the moon. Too bad he was only signing one item for each. I had a tough time figuring out what item for him to sign. I choose a Apollo 17 cover that already signed by Evans and Cernan.I only wish the room was bigger and the driving in was easier. Overall well worth the trip in. Bryan |

I had a similar decision with Harrison Schmitt and I didn't have to think about it at all. It was ther photo Gene took of Jack on the surface with the flag and the earth in the background. Along with the Aldrin shot on Apollo 11, it is the Signature Photos of the Apollo Age and the Moonwalks. Fortunately I got to meet both men and they graciously signed both.Cliff |

I wish I knew that there were more guys from this list at the Schmitt lecture. It would have been great to put a face with a name.The lecture was good and I was surprised at Dr. Schmitt's energy. He looked quite good and younger than I thought he would have been. The lecture was good for the students at the school. Dr. Schmitt gave an interesting overview of the Legacy of Apollo which included getting to the moon, the scientific legacy of exploring the moon and personal reflections from going to the moon. After the lecture, Bryan and I went over and had a couple of things signed. Dr. Schmitt was very gracious in signing for people, but signed one item per person. I dropped my piece back at the car and went back to the cocktail party. I saw a few people I knew from MIT and another local college that specializes in the aerospace industry and we discussed NASA and CAIB report and then it was time to head home. Maybe we should make a date to get together and meet each other sometime. ------------------
