From NASA Space Station On-Orbit Status:

"Today, continuous manned occupancy of the ISS reaches 1000 days.  What a milestone in human frontiers exploration history!"

The Expedition 7 crew, Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA International Space Station Science Officer Ed Lu, will commemorate the 1,000th day of continuous human presence Tuesday at 10:35 a.m. EDT on NASA TV.

They have a long way to go before they equal Mir's record! 15 years = 5475 days.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Mir wasn't continually occupied for the full 15 years.

My understanding is that the longest period on Mir when humans were aboard the station was 2641 days.

Well, I was thinking of the Mir Station itself being in orbit...but either way, the ISS and its crews have a long way to go yet to equal that record! NASA tends to carry on as though they're the only ones to achieve this.

Rosaviakosmos also made note of the 1000 day milestone -- the celebration was mutual as it was an achievement for international cooperation.
