Here is a rather unique 1968 greeting card mailed out January 8, 1969. I am wondering if these were produced after the successful completion of the Apollo 8 mission and thus the reason for the tardy postmark? Shown below are the beautiful face of the card along with the front and back of the mailing envelope.Bob Hope was a strong supporter of the early American space program and a huge fan of the astronauts. The inside of the card is not space related but simply states "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Bob and the family." |

Just wondering why you think it's an Apollo 8 themed card? It shows a Saturn 1B, has no Genesis quotes, etc. To me it's a generic space related Christmas card. |

The phrase "we, with God's help, have reached far out into space" implies more than earth orbiting astronauts. |

Or it could be referring to the Gemini 11 flight. |

Hard to say for sure, but it could very well apply to Apollo 8 since there is a postal cancellation date in January 1969 on the card. An Apollo/Saturn 1B rocket is shown, which did launch the first Apollo crew in October 1968 (not a Gemini/Titan II), but I am more inclined to agree that rocketing men "far out into space" could apply to the first manned lunar voyage since the applied postmark was well-after the Apollo 8 mission. It's just a personal thought and nothing more, though. |
