Can someone explain the Sunday non-pictorial postmark on Colorano's Endeavour cover? The trip was suppose to be complete on Saturday, but it ran 18 hours late and finished on that Sunday instead. I know the USPS does do some special Sunday postmarks, but the dynamic nature of this event I would think would prevent such here. The 90052 zip is for the main LA Post Office which also serviced the two pictorial "90045" cancels. As a note, the Science Center is technically 90037. |

The most logical explanation would be that all those professional covers had been served after the event occurred, and sometimes considerably so. That is often the case with USPS pictorials, they often return weeks after the event. Post Offices normally have no extra staff to handle pictorial postmarkers, they deal with it "when there is time". No problem then to deal with a customer who calls in to make sure the cancel will carry the date of a Sunday. |

I know that pictorial cancels are typically available 30 days after the event, sometimes more. However, this is apparently a regular cancel. I wasn't aware those could be applied after the fact. I presume Colorano isn't creating their own cancel. | |
