Dr. Reuben "Ben" Ramkissoon, president emeritus and chair of the Space Topic Study Unit, died on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the age of 91. Ramkissoon's death in Loma Linda, California, was confirmed by his son, Kevin. Dad was 91 years old and lived a productive life as a pathologist for over 50 years in CA and IL with over 30 years at Hinsdale Hospital. For the last 21 years he'd been battling Parkinson's disease and it just wore him out. Please keep my sister Keri and her family and myself in your prayers as we grieve our loss of our beloved father. According to an online biography, Ramkissoon served as vice president of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) Section of Astrophilately and was a member of the FIP Bureau of Astrophilately through 2015. He was also the American Philatelic Society's representative to the FIP Section of Astrophilately. Dr. Ramkissoon had been a foremost United States exhibitor in astrophilately for 40 years, with his gold medal award winning entry, "The Development of the United States Lunar Exploration."Other exhibits of his included, "The Mariner Missions," "Jovian Journeys and Beyond," "International Co-operation in Space Exploration," "Dr. Robert Goddard, Father of American Rocketry," "The First Man on the Moon," and "A Study of NASA VIP Post Cards." |

One of the foremost pioneers and gold medal recipients in astrophilately that I had the pleasure to know and work with on some space cover projects since the 1970's. Ben had been one of my first space cover service customers since we first got in contact with each other more than 45 years ago.A true gentleman and well respected by all within our space cover and stamp collecting community that stretches worldwide. My sincere condolences to his son, Kevin, and to the rest of the Ramkissoon family. He will be dearly missed. |

Influential early member and former President of the Space Unit of the ATA/APS working along side Les Winick. I was lucky enough to work with Ben and Les on their space cover catalog. Ben always gave his time to help new collectors when the Space Unit would meet at COMPEX or ChicagoPEX. Ad Astra Ben!
