Thanks for posting this, Robert. I had not heard about it yet.

You might want to check your sources for the postage rates, though. A domestic letter up to 1 oz. costs 45c now. A letter overseas $1.05.

Of course, one can also use the "Endeavour" stamp issued a couple of years ago. A bit expensive though, at $16.95...

Thanks for catching that, Jürgen. I had copied that paragraph from a previous cancellation announcement out of expediency and forgot to update the postage rates. It has now been corrected.

Surprising that this will be the only pictorial cancel of the three Shuttle orbiters being flown to their display sites by NASA's SCA.

Re: use of the $16.95 Endeavour stamp for this cancel; expensive, yes, so I suggest one of Bob McCall's block-of-four Shuttle stamps issued in 1981 (maybe the orbiter about to touch down?) and save the others for a future cancel when Endeavour is displayed on the vertical shuttle 'stack'.

Found a FDC for $1 for a block of stamps issued in Australia depicting a sailing replica of the Endeavour, Capt. Cook's ship, and had it double-cancelled with the postmarks mentioned above. Nice souvenir for an inexpensive price.

All times are CT (US)
