If a hall of fame for space philatelists existed, who would you nominate to be included and why?

The recent mention of space cover designer Barbara J. Baker made me consider the possibility of a hall of fame. I would like to devote this thread to nominating individuals for this honor.

I propose that all space philatelists should propose a list of five individuals (more or less) and in a few words or more explain what they did for the hobby. You can also comment on individuals previously listed and make comments on other nominations. If a person is deceased, please give any dates when they are known to you.

I estimate that we will have 50 or more nominations when we are ready for induction into the hall of fame. We could induct 10 nominees each month, if agreed. I hope that either collectSPACE or the Space Unit will devote permanent space to this honor. If not, this thread can suffice for now.

I have been thinking about this all day and I already have a list of 20 individuals. Here are my first five proposed nominations for the Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists:

  • Barbara J. Baker - Space Cover Designer who also served on several committees to contribute to the progress of the hobby.

  • Bob Boudwin - Space Cover/cachet Designer and space cover servicer who also held large space cover auctions.

  • Bob Ekas - Space Cover/cachet Designer ans servicer and Editor of The Dish, a publication for space philatelists in the early days of the hobby.

  • Carl Swanson - Space Artist, Space Covercachet Designer - designer of Space Craft Covers and later Manned Space Craft Covers

  • Morris Beck - Navy Space Recovery Ship Cachet Designer

Your comments would be appreciated.

What an excellent idea! Hopefully, it can inspire young people to become the next space artist, cachet designer or space philatelist. So far, two come to mind:

-Paul Calle (1928-2010): Space artist, stamp designer. One of the first artists selected in 1962 to document the NASA space program. Designed the iconic Air Mail stamp to celebrate Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, among dozens he and artist son Chris drew over the decades.

-William Joffe Numeroff (1911-2003): Space artist, cachet designer, author. A cartoonist for the old NY World Telegraph & Sun, he drew many portraits of aviation and space pioneers. Co-author, with Dr. Tony Cipriano, of 'America's Journeys into Space' which is illustrated by him (I met him at the 10th anniversary of Apollo 11 celebrations in DC, my first year as a serious space philatelist).

Good luck with this project!

Both Paul Calle and Bill Numeroff are excellent choices. Paul Calle designed over 30 US stamps during his lifetime (1928-2010), including at least 4 US space stamps, including the 1967 Gemini Space Twins stamps and the 1969 Man on the Moon Stamp.

I met Bill Numeroff many times. He was a great space artist and a gracious gentleman. He often told me that he was a co-designer of the US Dr. Robert Goddard stamp.

He was very influential (with Dr. Tony Cipriano) in obtaining donations from celebrities and astronauts for the 1978 IASP Don L. Chaffee Auction to help the father of Apollo 1 Astronaut Roger Chaffee.

There is no restriction on who you can nominate for this honor. If a person is not well known but has served the hobby well, their nomination will make them known to other space/astro philatelists. If collectors need more information to make a decision, please ask for it.

Robert McCall designed at least 20 stamps for the space program including the Decade of Achievement stamps that went to the moon on Apollo 15.

I don't know how "we" can leave out Les Winick, Dr. Ben Ramkissoon or Carole McCoy and Ray Cartier. I don't know that any of these four were ever "in it for themselves" and provided me with information, services, etc., that I will never forget in my lifetime.

Here are a few other entries that I can think of for now;

Bob McLeod, Steve Durst, Bob Whitney, Jack McMahan, Ray Burton, Ron Allen, Robert Rank, Jurgen Esders, Pete Sarmiento, Jim Rose, Dave Chudwin, and possibly Bill York, Jim Roth, and maybe Angelo Taiani and Ralph Yorio.

As for space cover dealers being included, like for Boudwin and Rank, perhaps there should be other credentials considered instead of just being a space cover dealer or cachet producer.

There were many cover-type dealers, of all kinds, throughoutout the Apollo and early shuttle years. How many of them are still with us and promote the hobby beyond personal interest or gain?

Ken, thanks for the information. Please supply information about each of these individuals that will nominate them for the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists - not just their names. The whole point of this exercise is to acquaint all space philatelists with the individuals who contributed to the establishment and progress of the hobby of space philately.

I agree that the individual should not be just a dealer in space covers. They should have supported the hobby in some other way or designed their own covers for a long period of time. My mention of Bob Ekas and Bob Boudwin are examples. They were not only space cover dealers, they actually designed the cachets and prepared the covers in the early years of this hobby. Bob Ekas also edited and distributed "The Dish", a very helpful publication for space philatelists. Bob Boudwin also held large space cover auctions in the early years of the hobby which enabled collectors to increase their collections rapidly.

Please re-submit your list with as much information about each individual as you can. There will be a tendency to nominate individuals who are currently active in the hobby, instead of founders of the hobby. Please be more specific about each person and include some older nominees if at all possible.

I will update the list from time to time. As the nominations progress, try to find photos of the individuals and examples of their space covers if they are space cover designers. I am already working on this.

So far I personally have nominated 5 people for this honor. My personal list is getting much longer. I wish to mention a few individuals only by name. These will not be nominations at this time because I will not mention their contribution to the hobby. See if anyone can identify any of them:

Charles Cress, Francis Fenner, Herbert Rosen, Joe Fitzpatrick, Ruth Hellard.

These people all contributed to the hobby of space philately in the formative years. Do you know who they are?

Thanks Bob for the name. To nominate someone you should include a few words about their contribution to the hobby. Many of us may know Ken, but we need a few specific words to nominate Ken and those mentioned by Gene and Ken above.

You should probably restrict your list to 5 people at a time to give others the chance to participate in this exercise. There are 30 people on my personal list, but I will nominate only a few at a time.

A nomination should be seconded by other collectors. Please comment on those already listed and add a few (with descriptions) yourself. After a few weeks or so, all space philatelists will be asked to vote for five people each month to be Inducted into the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists. We will need photos and any other illustrations that you think are appropriate. Remember, this is for the future of the hobby. In the far future, I do not want space philatelists to ask "Who was Barbara Baker?" They will know from the information in this Hall of Fame.

Not too much time for posting now, but first off, to Bob, you're much to kind, but thank you! Let me also answer LM1's questions:

Yes, I do "know of" Rosen, Fitzpatrick (working with Carl S.), Hellard, one of the first Astrophile editors if I am not mistaken, but I do not know the names of Cress and Fenner.

My involvement with astrophilately got started during the late 1960s and early 70s, therefore, perhaps they were "before my time"?

McLeod — Long-time space philatelist, promotor, author of many space cover related collecting guides, articles, and other contributions to the hobby. One of the "best guys" in our beloved hobby that is always willing to assist and help others.

Durst — Another long-standing and premier astrophilatelist, a Space Unit official, and best known for his many published space cover articles and in-depth writings.

Whitney — A pioneer space cover servicer during the early days of space exploration. His rubber stamp cachet service was a major contribution to the field in providing hundreds of collectors and dealers worldwide with quality space covers from the Florida Space Coast.

Burton — First president of the KSC Philatelic Society, was an avid space cover collector, with many contributions to the hobby, especially in promoting KSC's role with the club's philatelic activities.

More to come as time permits.

Thanks Ken for the information on Bob McLeod, Steve Durst, Bob Whitney and Ray Burton. They are now on the list. I could use more specific information about the publications that each produced, if possible. Ray Burton was also an officer in the Space Unit at the time of his death (1913-2003). I would appreciate information directly from any living nominees about their specific contribution to space philately.

So far we have 12 nominees: Bob Boudwin, Bob Ekas, Carl Swanson, Barbara Baker, Morris Beck, Robert McCall, Paul Calle, Bill Numeroff, Ray Burton, Bob McLeod, Bob Whitney and Steve Durst. I could use more specific information on all of them.

More will be added when specific information is received about their contribution to the hobby.

You mentioned that you knew of Herb Rosen and Joe Fitzpatrick, but you did not mention who they were. I will mention more about Charles Cress and Francis Fenner when they are formally nominated.

I would like to nominate two more space philatelists for the Hall of Fame:

  • Jeff Dugdale (Scotland) - Editor of ORBIT, journal of the Astro Space Stamp Society, since 1995. He is currently working on issue #95 (Sept. 2012) of this large colorful publication devoted to space philately. He is also scanning every page of every issue from 1995 for posterity and future space philatelists. Jeff has also written numerous articles on the subject for Topical Time and STAMP Magazine (UK). Jeff is devoted to the hobby and is very helpful to all collectors. He also manages the ASSS Website.

  • Robert Rank - Space cover designer. Bob has designed and distributed Space Voyage Covers on all areas of space philately through his cover service for many decades. Bob is also devoted to the hobby.

Sure, that is easy.

Lester Winick led the ATA/Space Unit for a number of years, promoted space cover collecting every step of the way, made sure "we" local/area collectors had meeting rooms available at various Chicago area stamp shows/philatelic exhibitions including arranging for astronauts to join us for lunch on more than one occasion.

He still is a writer/contributor for Linn's Weekly Stamp News.

Dr. Ben Ramkissoon also led the ATA/Space Unit for a number of years and "helped" Mr. Winick before that. He would freely correspond with anyone with any questions about the space covers/space collecting hobby (although I truly never knew how he had the time!).

Carole McCoy was from or based in Ohio and was the editor of the ATA/Space Unit Astrophile for as long as I remember. She also provided a FREE service of mailing out mimeographed postal cards to collectors with news of space cover events/flights/launches between issues of The Astrophile.

And Ray Cartier is still so very active... heavily involved in the ATA/Space Unit, and an author/editor/publisher of several catalogues on space covers:

Executive Director American Topical Assn
February 2003 – February 2009 (6 years 1 month)

Ray Cartier's Publications
Primary Recovery Ship Covers Self|March 1, 1992
Authors: Ray Cartier
A study of the various envelopes cancelled aboard the US Space Program's manned Primary Recovery Ships. The first study of its kind for collectors.

U.S. Space Cover Collecting Handbook Self|February 1, 2011
Authors: Ray Cartier, I had six other advanced collectors review my work prior to its publication.
200 pgs. 1169 illustrations of the most desired collectible envelopes showing a postmarked history of space exploration. This followed 44 years of collecting and research and included estimated values, dates and assorted tips.

Topical Stamp Collecting: A Universal Hobby for Seniors American Topical Association|October 1, 2003
Authors: Ray Cartier, John Groet
A small publication to introduce seniors into the world of collecting stamps and covers by the topics portrayed.

Am back for a bit, and yes, I think Ray C., Les W., and Ben R. are excellent nomination choices. I know all of them well and certainly agree of their valuable contributions to our special area of collecting and study.

To answer your qustion, LM1, I've heard of Herb Rosen, but just can't place him.

Joe Fitzpatrick, whom I did know early on, was a partner with Carl Swanson in producing the well-known pioneering SpaceCraft Cover series.

Wasn't Ruth Hellard one of the first Astrophile editors and officers of the Space Unit/ATA during the 1960s?

Francis Fenner, once again, does ring a bell, but I can't place her (before my time)? As to Charles Cress, to be honest, I have no idea whatsoever. Can you fill them in for us?

While I am not too concerned with names being nominated or listed for a project like this for personal reasons,(though I have nothing against it), I am however, more interested in knowing the names and contributions of space philatelists as an education of sorts, or more like, a "Who's Who" in our hobby!

For example, I never heard of Charles Cress and know hardly nothing about Frances Fenner and Herb Rosen. Please do tell us more about them, as noted above.

But there were/are many others in the arena of astrophilately that have contributed in many different ways, not just working as an officer, serving on a committee, or by publishing works and study guides about aerospace stamps and space covers.

Take for instance Bernice Scholl, another long-time SU-official and supporter, Stephen Stein, Harry Anderson, Russ and Wanda Smith of the Titusville-Moonport Stamp Club, along with other "club" and other organization leaders such as Al Colella, Ed Rusinek, and Roy Whitson, just to name a few.

Our nation's own U.S. Postal Service is another unknown chapter to many. There were key postal representatives that were instrumental in helping space cover servicers, dealers, and collectors cancel and process space covers more easily than before.

Government officials like Dusty Rhodes, Charlie Brown, Allen V., Ray D., Al N., and others were a crucial part in this somewhat untold story.

Of course, there are others worldwide, mostly in Europe, that continue to enhance our hobby by their dedicated efforts on many levels.

In other words, in my opinion, it would be difficult to "single out" individuals covering a wide-range, but I suppose it could be done. Perhaps, better though, it would help to have different selection categories.

This project is for the future of the hobby. In 10 or 20 or 30 years, who will remember those who founded this exceptional hobby and aided in its progress? Your repeated statements that you do not know Cress, Fenner or Rosen prove the point. Very few future collectors, who will be preparing covers for the next series of manned missions to the Moon and perhaps to an asteroid, will remember the leaders of this hobby who are active today or were active 30 or 40 years years ago.

Just listing names has no educational benefit. This Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists will have the same purpose as the Baseball Hall of Fame, if you will allow me to make this comparison. Admittedly, the Baseball Hall of Fame is in the middle of nowhere in upper New York State. I visited this shrine once and I was very impressed. You can see the entire list of Baseball Hall of Fame inductees online with full information about each person (even umpires and executives). Everyone knows Babe Ruth, but how many know Cy Young or any of the many great players of the past who perpetuated the sport?

Anyone can make a Who's Who of any hobby or organization. With this Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists we (space philatelists) hope to single out those who were exceptional in their dedication to the hobby, which we all agree is a special hobby. Lists of names in categories will not be effective in educating future collectors.

So far, we have 18 nominees. As I mentioned previously, there is a tendency to nominate friends who you know personally. It is difficult to even name the founders of the hobby. I mentioned Cress, Rosen and Fenner to point this out. I have already nominated seven individuals. You nominated four. The remaining seven nominees were nominated by four participants in this project. Bob nominated you, but he did not follow it up with any description because he presumes that anyone who votes for induction will know your specific contributions to the hobby. Those in the future will not know what you did for the hobby. They will ask, "Who was Ken Havekotte?" Please send a very brief but specific description that I can add to Bob's nomination of you.

So far, only six collectors have participated in this project. You have again listed many contributors to the hobby. I would prefer that we should not each list 20 collectors. That would not benefit the hobby. Others should participate. The descriptions of their contributions to the hobby should be specific, not vague. I expect that this project will require several months, if we induct five individuals each month. I had hoped that as soon as we have 50 nominees that we could ask space philatelists to vote for 25 inductees. The top five who receive the most votes could be inducted. Then, we would carry the remaining 45 names to the next month and start nominating again.

If we induct everyone all at once, there would be no value to this honor. We need more participation from space philatelists, not just six individuals.

Understand, no problem, and overall I do agree with your observations and viewpoints.

But I am curious to know more about Cress, Fenner, and Rosen. But please understand, LM1, that I was in no way trying to disrespect any of the folks mentioned above simply because I am not too aware of their contributions. Certainly is NOT the case as I would love to know and learn more about these pioneer space philatelists. After all, they're part of our hobby heritage, huh?

Such hall of fames, in my opinion, may sometimes go in an unpositive direction. As you pointed out, members or candidates may select their personal friends and associates within their own arena, and not necessarily the best qualified.

This is why some, say with former astronauts, do not participate in the selection process of new astronauts being inducted into such-and-such hall of fame or similar institutions.

While I do serve on a couple of committees like this, inparticular, a retired astronaut once told me that he feels it best for him not to participate in something like this as friendships and favortisms can interfere or influence their choices. But of course, many do participate and get involved, and that is just fine.

To answer your question, "Who was/is Ken Havekotte?" Actually, I have a tough time in answering that myself. For me, personally, I don't feel it would be proper for me to answer that question in this public forum. Some folks might think I am only trying to promote myself, get on a list, and so on. Let me, perhaps after thinking about it, email you later with a brief description.

I did not think for a second that you were disrespecting anyone. Your interest in these three gentlemen proves that we need something like the Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists.

Do you have copies of the very old Astrophiles from 40 years ago. These three men are mentioned there. I will be more specific later. I can imagine that there are many others who started this hobby. And you see, they are forgotten. I will add anyone to the list who is nominated, but I would prefer older collectors from the foundation of the hobby. What about Earl Wellman? Do you remember what he did for the hobby?

LM1, Briefly, as I have a few minutes online before I start working on an upcoming cachet space cover project for a NASA mission this August (seriously)!

The name Earl Wellman, in all honestly, does sound familiar. I am thinking along the lines of another air philatelic association and journal (perhaps from the Jack Knight Air Logs) as I believe we had corresponded beforehand. Actually, LM1, I do recall an older gentleman during the 1970s that may had visited me in Florida by that name. In checking my file folder cabinets, unfortunately, I do not see him included.

While I do have some older space philatelic journals going back to the early '60s or so (i.e. Astrophile, Explorer, First Day —, Air Logs, etc.), I'll have to locate them and start reading them a lot, huh.

By the way, LM1, have we met before or corresponded? Who are you as curious minds would like to know?

Boy, Earl Wellman! Here is a name I knew many, many years before I ever met him, from reading other collectors' Jack Knight Air Logs at local stamp club meetings!

But then, when I got the chance to meet him, at Chicago area stamp shows, of course, what a treasure trove of information! All that published in the Air Logs! And he got dozens, if not hundreds, of other people interested in his specialty area. What a hospitable man to get to spend time with! WOW!

I am nominating the following individuals for the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists:

  • Earl Wellman - Founder and President of the Aero-Philatelic Federation of the Americas. His Jack Knight Air Log always had a section called ROCKET MAIL which covered developments in space philately. The Space Unit & the IASP also had space in this publication. Earl participated in the Space Seminars at INTERPEX in New York annually. A great man who did a great deal for this hobby. He is missed.

  • Herbert Rosen - A pioneer in this hobby. Founder of INTERPEX, a philatelic exhibition in New York City. He also founded the IASP (international Association of Space Philatelists) 1968-1990 and the Explorer publication and supported many meetings of the IASP in NYC.

  • Joseph Fitzpatrick - Founder of Space Craft Covers

  • Charles Cress - Co-founder of the Space Unit

  • Francis Fenner - He was the First President of the Space Unit

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your participation in this project. However, you did what almost everyone has done. You did not mention in a few words who these people are and what they did for the progress of the hobby. Use more than a few words if possible. Simply listing names does not qualify for nomination. This Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists will be for the use of future space philatelists who will not know these individuals. Please note that Steve Durst, Les Winick & Dr. Ben Ramkissoon have already been nominated.

Yes, absolutely JJF, also a cS member for his pioneering work at the Grand Turk Island tracking station during MGA.

Surely the OP doesn't expect fully developed bios in this little thread? Here's a hint. Wanna encourage people to contribute? Be nice and take what is given. Let others do some research.

Regarding the proposed Hall of Fame it was asked, "Who would you want to be included and why." So, a simple who and why should suffice for now.

Regarding eligibility for nomination, it was stated that "the individual should not be just a dealer in space covers." Well, guess what? Without them this hobby would not be what it is today.

There should be a place for them at the table somewhere down the line. Here's one. Seymour Rodman, USA, for his work 20+ years ago as "Astro-Postal History".

Bob, thanks for the nomination of Ken Havekotte for this honor. We need a few words to describe who Ken is and his contributions to the progress of the hobby. Only a few words, not a full bio as others have mentioned. Ken said that he would do this by email, but I guess that he forgot.

We (space philatelists) could also use more specific information to add to your nomination. These nominations will be viewed by space philatelists throughout the world and they may not know you or Ken.

Thanks for the nomination of Robert McCall for the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists. We are including space stamp artists like Paul Calle and Robert McCall although they are not technically space philatelists. They did contribute a great deal to the hobby.

Thanks for the nomination of Seymour Rodman, but what was Astro Postal History? I remember that Mr. Rodman held many large space cover auctions by mail and that he was an officer in the Space Unit and a very fine gentleman and a credit to the hobby. I believe that he also wrote articles for the Astrophile. Can you add more? No, we do not need full bios of any nominee. We do need more specific information about a few that have already been nominated. Also, if anyone sees any mistakes that we are making in the nominations, please inform us.

We have very few rules/guidelines in this project. One rule is - If you wish to nominate someone, please state who they are and what they contributed to the progress of the hobby. If the person making the nomination cannot supply a few words for a description, they should not be making the nomination. You should not leave that job to others to research. Do not use abbreviations in your description.

As for space cover dealers, several will be nominated, but not just because they sold space covers, because they helped the hobby to progress and improve for future space philatelists. There are hundreds of space cover dealers.

Without detracting from what I agree is a good discussion, who is the "we" in this project? As it has been suggested collectSPACE possibly host this, it would be good to understand who is setting the rules. Is this a formal Space Unit activity?

Firstly, I would like to nominate someone from a different part of the world, Australia. Jack Kock worked at Woomera and developed relationships with people there as well as postal officials. He went on to produce covers for a large number of Woomera rocket launches during the 1960s and 1970s. He also founded Bay Stamps which specialised in Space covers (as well as a few other areas) and was probably the only major dealer of Space covers in Australia at the time. His lists of Woomera covers are still the most comprehensive in existence.

Secondly, as far as I know, this is not a Space Unit activity, although I would be happy to ask the SU committee whether they wished to be involved. If they did, the final list could be placed on the SU website.

This is not a Space Unit activity. I had noticed several times that the Space Unit website, which is directed by Dr. Ross Smith in Australia, has had an area set aside in their website for a Hall of Fame since 2006. I contacted Space Unit officers repeatedly over the years regarding the Hall of Fame, but I did not receive a reply.

I hope that the Space Unit will consider placing the space philatelists inducted here each month into their Hall of Fame. If not, I hope that collectSPACE will agree to a place in this website for the Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists. If this fails too, this thread will have to suffice for this honor to the founders and pioneers of Space Philately (including currently active outstanding space philatelists). This Hall of Fame could fail for many reasons — lack of participation and lack of interest — nominating only current friends/personalities in the hobby and lack of information about nominees.

Constructive comments about this project are appreciated, even if you are not nominating someone.

This project is for the benefit of all space philatelists, now and in the future. By "we" I mean all space philatelists. We do not have many rules/guidelines for this project. Perhaps that is why the Space Unit Hall of Fame failed — they have a full page of rules, asking for long biographies and photos and formal nominating and approval by a Board and many other rules.

The current space philatelists make the rules for this Hall of Fame for Space Philatelists. So far, there are only two rules: Nominate someone by name and who they are (dealer, artist, editor, officer, etc.) and mention very briefly but specifically what they did for the advancement/ progress of the hobby.

I do not want to take personal credit for this project. I am just one of hundreds of space philatelists. Notice that I deliberately said hundreds, not thousands of collectors. This hobby should be more popular than it is. Only ORBIT and the ASTROPHILE are currently active space philatelic publications. Both the Space Unit and the Astro Space Stamp Society have only a few hundred members. Hopefully, this Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists will develop some renewed interest in the hobby.

The reason that we will eventually need photos, examples of artwork, copies of covers and longer biographies, is that I hope to send a list of the inductees each month to Linn's for publication. This is a weekly stamp publication. This will develop interest in the Space Unit, collectSPACE and space philately in general.

Thanks Ross for the nomination of Jack Kock for the Hall of Fame for space Philatelists. His name is added to the list. So far we have 9 participants in this project. There are about 25 nominees so far. We have nominees on three continents.

I have a question for all participants, when the five inductees are named, how should we list them — alphabetically or by total number of votes or some other designation? Since we have only nine participants so far, that is not enough to get inducted, if we require a minimum of 10 votes to be inducted. It could be that no space philatelist will receive 10 votes.

After considerable research, I would like to nominate the following individuals for the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists:

  • Ken Havekotte - Space Cover designer and servicer from Kennedy Space Center & Cape Canaveral. Authority on space autographs who frequently shares his opinions on autographs.

  • Ross Smith - Space Unit website director, also maintains several other space-related websites for collectors. A devoted space philatelist who could never be replaced.

  • Sean Marsar - Devoted space cover servicer and previous Space Unit Officer. Very influential in the hobby in the 60s & 70s. He was very influential in uncovering the "Charles Riser Scandal" related to space souvenirs & collectibles.

I would like to nominate the following individuals for the Hall of Fame of Space Philatelists:

  • Joe Frasketi - Wrote many articles on NASA's ETR for the Astrophile and other space publications; his cover service of Cape Canaveral ETR activities was a benefit to all space philatelists; his current space website promotes space philately.

  • Bill York - Editor of the Explorer of the International Association of Space Philatelists (1970-1990), President of the IASP (1972-1990); Editor of the Astrophile of the space Unit (2002-2003); Space Unit Director (2005-2006).

  • Dr. William R. "Doc" Hanson - Space stamp artist - designer of over 2,000 stamps for 25 countries, many of which were space-related stamps. Bill also participated at many of the Space Philately Seminars in New York in the 70s & 80s.
