Am I allowed to print the STS-133 mission patch on covers which were postmarked on the day Space Shuttle Discovery docked and undocked to/from ISS? NASA's webpage for the insignia says: The NASA insignia design for shuttle and space station flights is reserved for use by the astronauts and for other official use as the NASA Administrator may authorize. Public availability has been approved only in the form of illustrations by the various news media. When and if there is any change in this policy, which is not anticipated, it will be publicly announced. |

Yes, you can print the insignia, if it is for personal use. The disclaimer applies to commercial use of the design. If you intended to market the covers commercially, then you should consult NASA's merchandising guidelines. |

Robert, thank you very much for quick reply. Do you know whether NASA charges anything when somebody imprints less than 50 covers with an STS mission patch? |

As a federal government agency, NASA doesn't charge for the use of any of its images. It may however request design approval to ensure its insignia is not being used to imply endorsement or appearing on inappropriate products. For your purposes though, you needn't be concerned. |
