I just got my Nov. 28 Linn's Stamp News (the main weekly news journal for stamp collectors) and on page 2 is an article entitled "China Opens Post Office in Space and at Beijing Aerospace Center". This parrots the Xinhua news release, except for two interesting paragraphs:
Collectspace (sic), an online publication for people interested in space history and artifacts, reports that Russia also has a post office in space.
This Russian post office originated in the 1970's and remains in operation on the International Space Station. The Collectspace report calls it a 'makeshift' post office the 'consists primarily of a postmark device that is only used in space.
