I have a set of 10 covers. Dr. Radnofsky sent these as a holiday greeting years back. I am looking to find more background information the covers and how he was involved. The extent of my knowledge is, "Dr. Matthew Radnofsky (1924-1993), the developer of the Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury space suits and gear was a research scientist at NASA who also served as an adjunct faculty member at The University of Houston in the late 1970's." |

I knew both Matt and his wife Eunice. They were very active in the MSC (later JSC) Stamp Club and they also ran Rand Philatelic Bureau up into the 1990's.Matt was one of the NASA Langley folks who transferred to MSC when it first started. As you mentioned, he was instrumental in space suit design. He was also involved with crew cabin design and told me that he wrote a memo about the dangers of the pure Oxygen environment at/above atmospheric pressure, sometime before the Apollo fire. He also took the photos I showed in Space Cover of the Week 116. And some more about Matt is in Space Cover of the Week 548. | |
