A special postmark featuring the space shuttle in front of what seems a celestial body is being used at Melbourne, Florida, on 13 - 15 April 2007.

The name of the station is "Gemutlichkeit Station". This spelling leaves out the umlaut on the "u" (Gemütlichkeit) (I have to say that, as a German, no?). Also, would you consider the shuttle as a showcase for Gemütlichkeit? Well, you don't discuss taste ...

Address for sending in your covers:
Gemutlichkeit Station
USPS POstmaster
P.O. Box 141
Melbourne, FL 32902-9998

Hey Jurgen-

I have to say this as an ignorant American - what's Gemuchtlichleit (sorry about not putting in the umlaut)?

Well, since this postmarker has been initiated by Americans, there are probably a few who know this term. Perhaps there are more people with German roots in Florida than there are at Washington D.C.

Gemütlichkeit is almost as untranslatable as is Heimat, Oktoberfest, Lederhose, etc. ;-)

Snugness or sociability or coziness as appropriate terms, my online dictionary suggests.

Would you say the shuttle is snug or cozy?

Hehehe - now Mercury or Gemini could have been called snug & cozy, but Shuttle? Now I understand the dichotomy.

All times are CT (US)
