The Space Unit of the APS and ATA will have our 2006 National Meeting in conjunction with the Washington 2006 Show on June 3, 2006. We will meet at 3 pm that day in the Washington DC Convention Center (where the show is held). Our guest speaker will be Dr. David Leckrone, Senior Scientist for the Hubble Space Telescope. Chris Calle', the designer of the Apollo 11 20th anniversary stamp and others has been invited to speak also and we are awaiting his confirmation.

We plan to have a trade session following the meeting either in the meeting room or nearby. So BRING TRADE STUFF!!!

We will adjourn at about 5:45 from the trading session to go to dinner at Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza at 9th and F St. NW, just 6 blocks, or one Metro stop south of the convention center. For any of you who already know that you will be going to dinner, please drop a line to Dennis Dillman at micropooz@starpower.net .

The Space Unit will also have a one-frame exhibit in the society display area. This display will play-up Space Unit membership and show some primary recovery ship covers from Ray Cartier, German V-2 rocket material from Steve Durst, unique cachet art from Eugene Mszar, and rocketplane covers from Dennis Dillman. Don’t miss it!

The Space Unit has also donated a special prize for the Washington 2006 show organizers to award at their discretion, consisting of a Lucite with a piece of Liberty Bell 7’s cockpit camera film that was recovered with the sunken capsule back in 1999.

By-the-way, BRING TRADE STUFF!!!

Chris Calle' has confirmed that he will speak at the meeting too.

Collocation - I believe that you must have spoken with Pete Sarmiento at the Air and Space Museum. Anyway, times are above. There are no fees.

The exhibition listing is now on the Washington-2006 website and the third astrophilatelic exhibit is by Vyacheslav Klochko titled: Space Mail of USSR and Russia. All three exhibits should be worth seeing.

I did my best to show many scarce and unique items including pre-ww2 Schmiedl rocket mail covers which never were shown on any stamp exhibition after ww2, Apollo 16 moon cover that was exposed to the vacuum of the moon, scarce Soviet, Russian and Chinese space mail as well as not flown examples of Apollo 11 and Apollo 15 postmarks designed for the use on the moon.

All times are CT (US)
