The 75th anniversary of the discovery of the planet Pluto by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 will be noted on March 19-20 with a pictorial cancel. To obtain cacheted covers with the cancel write to: Mesilla Valley Stamp Club, Box 546, Mesilla, NM 88046. Include $2 for each cover. A self addressed stamped envelope (SASE) is required. Why is this cover important? When the Pluto/New Horizons spacecraft is launched next January on its nine year mission to Pluto/Charon (if all goes as planned), you can apply an additional space stamp to the anniversary cover and have it hand-cancelled at KSC or JPL or Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, MD. This double cancelled cover will be worth much more than the initial $2 service fee. You should probably order more than one cover to trade with other collectors. Always use space stamps on your space covers. [This message has been edited by Astro Bill (edited February 24, 2005).] | |
