collectSPACE Boeing astronaut reveals mission patches for Starliner flight testsThe first astronauts set to launch on Boeing's new Starliner spacecraft now have a mission patch to represent their flight. Chris Ferguson, Boeing's first commercial astronaut, recently shared with his team the emblem that he and his two crewmates will wear for the Starliner's Crew Flight Test (CFT). Ferguson also revealed the insignia for the test flights that will precede the CFT launch.  |

For now, the Pad Abort Test and CFT insignia exist only as artwork. Boeing has produced the OFT emblem as an embroidered cloth patch, which is now available to employees and the public through the company's online and physical stores.  |

Just got this 45th Space Wing patch while at Kennedy Space Center in commemoration of the upcoming Boeing CST-100 Starliner Orbital Flight Test (OFT) for next month. |

First look at the embroidered Starliner CFT mission patch (from the crew portrait): The CFT patch is not yet available, but the Pad Abort Test patch is now for sale from the Boeing Store.  |

I hope not. Many collectors want crew patches that represent what has and will be used on flights. Do we really need souvenir versions? |

The patch may have been too large with the extra tag, given how close it already comes to the umbilical attachment on the suit. |

Alternatively the one without “Boeing” and “NASA” could be a prototype, which was not uncommon for the shuttle era. I guess time will tell. |

My guess was correct; per Boeing, the patch was trimmed for the spacesuits because it was too large. The souvenir patches and those flown on the mission as mementos, as well as other uses of the insignia will still include the Boeing and NASA tag.Also from Boeing, a small (1-inch) Starliner adhesive-backed patch:  |

From what I was told, the only CFT patches without the tag are going to be those sewn to the spacesuits, but I did not ask specifically about its availability beyond that. |

But why contains the official crew portrait the large patch without this tag?
Maybe there will be two different versions of the patch: The NASA version without tag and a Boeing version with the tag. |

The two versions of the patch are only due to size constraints, according to Boeing and the crew. But, yes, as shown in this photo taken moments ago, the astronauts are wearing the smaller version on their blue flight suits, too. |

I was at the Boeing store at the Future of Flight in Everett, Washington last month and they had one of the orbital flight test patches, so I bought one (would have bought some for a few pals from Space Camp, but oh well).The person at the store said they also had some for the flight test itself. I thought she was mistaken so I pulled up this thread on my phone and showed her, asking if she meant the middle at the top of this thread. Oh yes, she said, they had some and went in the back to see. I told her I'd buy all that she had (she said someone had bought them out of the other Starliner patches the previous day which is why they only had one OFT one left). She came back and said, "Sorry, the boss said we weren't supposed to get those and we can't sell them." Curses, foiled again. So close... |

collectSPACE Boeing reveals mission patch for second Starliner orbital flight testAs final touches are being put on Boeing's next Starliner spacecraft to launch, the company has revealed a new mission patch representing its team's hands-on approach to ensuring the capsule's safe flight. Boeing is targeting March 29, 2021 for the launch of its second uncrewed Starliner on a test flight to the International Space Station. The Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) will verify the performance fo the spacecraft's flight software, which on the first OFT prevented the Starliner from reaching the space station in December 2019.  |

While it fits quite well into the series I have a few issues with this design — in particular, for me the star around the ISS makes it look at first glance like the capsule is either shooting the ISS with a triple ray gun or smashing into it, neither of which would be recommended. |

The gift shop of the USAF Space & Missile Museum once more proves to be an excellent source of patches. The Boeing OFT-2 patch is already available there. |

All four of the 3.5" wide x 5.2" high patches were listed on the Boeing website on Friday 11th June. But the Ferguson Crew Flight Test version was withdrawn the next day. The Pad Abort Test version either sold out or was also withdrawn on Saturday too. So that just leaves the blue Orbital Flight Test and purple Orbital Flight Test-2 patches left to buy at this time. Update 18th June 2021: The purple Orbital Flight Test-2 patch has been removed and replaced with the orange/yellow Pad Abort Test patch on the Boeing website. |

Per Boeing, the only official versions of the patches are sold through the company's store. (The one sold by the museum seems to have been a third-party copy.) |

I have just received today the Boeing patches I won on eBay from a Boeing employee. I have also received today the smaller Boeing Starliner Orbital Flight Test-2 patches I bought from MyNASAstore and the Air Force Space & Missile Museum shop.The small Starliner OFT-2 I won on eBay (the patch on the top right), is 3" wide x 4" high and has smaller text saying "Orbital Flight Test-2" and "Boeing NASA", and has a fine black stitched border. (The same as can be seen on the larger Boeing Starliner OFT-2 patches). I am pretty sure this patch is a Boeing approved patch as it matches the colours used and the quality of the full size 3.5" x 5.2" Boeing OFT-2 version. Whereas the smaller Starliner OFT-2 patch I bought from MyNASAshop, (the patch on the top left), is 2.75" wide x 4.2" high with slightly larger text saying "Orbital Flight Test-2" and "Boeing NASA". This patch is probably a third-party copy patch? (It turns out to be manufactured by AB Emblem). There are also differences in the colours used in the capsule, the exhaust and in the purple swirls surrounding it. I'm not in possession of the larger 3.5" x 5.2" Boeing version of this OFT-2 patch yet. They are with my friend whose U.S. address I use, so I have added the large version of the Pad Abort Test patch for scale.  |

It has been bought to my attention that the purple Boeing Orbital Flight Test-2 patch shown in my message three posts above, (the top left patch), is manufactured by AB Emblem. It is 2.75" wide x 4.25" high. It has the following details on the embedded labels;- 430648 A-B Emblem Made In China 07/21 40
This patch is not listed on the AB Emblem website (yet), but is available to buy from a few of their selected agents/retailers. |

The Boeing Store has restocked its supply of the recently-completed Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) patch. This is the 3.5 by 5.2 inch version. |

Following up, these patches are not related to Starliner, Boeing or NASA. They are the emblems of the Space Force Gaming League. The Esports team was competing against the Air Force Gaming League at nearby Patrick Space Force Base at the time of the OFT-2 launch and came by to see the rollout of the Atlas V. Suni Williams and Mike Fincke made an unexpected visit and were presented with the team's patches. |
