CHAPEA, or Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog, is a series of three ground-based, more-than-a-yearlong missions, during which crew members will live and work in a 3D-printed, 1,700-square-foot habitat, "Mars Dune Alpha," at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas. Researchers will simulate the challenges of a human mission to Mars, including resource limitations, equipment failure, communication delays, and other environmental stressors. Here is the CHAPEA program logo:  CHAPEA Mission 1 begins on June 25, 2023 and is planned to last 378 days. The crew, all volunteers, include commander Kelly Haston, flight engineer Ross Brockwell, medical officer Nathan Jones and science officer Anca Selariu. Here is the CHAPEA Mission 1 patch:  |

They haven't, but I noticed the same and submitted the question to NASA. It also looks like I will be interviewing a member of the crew in July, so I can ask then if not known before. |

Thanks Paul! I have to give a shout out to my coworker Joe for the excellent work he did on polishing up the crew's mission patch. I was out on vacation when the last minute request came in to design it (last week right before the mission started) and he did a great job deriving it from my original CHAPEA patch.Oh and as for the emphasized letters — they are the initials of the other two crew members who were originally selected as prime/back up crew members. | |
