1. They will be 8" patches and I'd like to ask should I release them one at a time or as a set?

2. Due to it's historical significance (and because I think it looks cool) should I also offer a limited edition of a 12" Apollo? (I would probably have to pre-sell the entire order to pay for that one).

3. Depending on the answer to question 2 - should the STS commemorative be an 8" or a 12" patch.

4. I also plan to release X-15 and MOL commemoratives. Based on the design, they could be roughly 4" x 5" or would you prefer all the patches be around 8"?

To address the questions and comments made to this point:

1. If you've seen the "Celebrating 50 Years of America in Space" patch either here on cS or The Space Store or Jacques site spacepatches.nl you'll see the actual patch and I believe it will ease your concerns about quality.

2. I've attached thumbnail images below. I know you'd like to see them in detail but I've had artwork lifted off of the Internet before and I've worked too hard to let someone else "cut and paste" their way into my wallet.

3. The reason I'm thinking about 8" patches is because of the detail I want to capture in the designs. My idea is that they would be put on the back of jackets or framed in presentations. When you do see them you'll understand.

1. Blend the mission or patch logos into the background on the Gemini patch
   
2. Too many names on the Gemini and Apollo patches. Suggest not having them.

And now for the next phase.

1. I think these three designs are great.

2. I will buy an 8" and a 12" patch. So make both. Large to display. Small to wear. Yes an 8" patch will fit on a jacket if not above the pocket carefully place on your chest. Then take deep breaths to make your chest stick out. If you go smaller you will lose the important details. But make the 8!

3. I have the 12" commemoration for the crews of Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia. It is always an attention getter. The large size will do these designs justice. It will bring out the details and avoid clutter. This size will work on the back of a jacket but most likely will be displayed. So go larger to capture all of the details.

4. Keep the names. The individuals that reached these goals are part of what we are trying to remember.

5. As for which ones to release or to release all at once. Do whatever is logistically easiest for you. You are doing all of the work. We will be here to buy when the patches are ready.

I hope you all like it and will want to add it to your collections.

I do have plans for Skylab and ASTP under a combined "Apollo Applications" but the design is still in work. I also have created an X-15 and Space Shuttle commemorative.

The reason I designed Gemini the way I did was to have GTA 12 end at the "12 o'clock" position. I just liked it better that way.
You are correct that the Gemini symbol could be smaller, I'll put that in work.

The next patch in the series is the X-15 commemorative:

This design is the third in the series "Celebrating 50 Years of America in Space" it honors the men and women of the X-15 Program.

The central theme of the design is the launch of the X-15 from its carrier aircraft. It flies to where the sky turns black. The twelve men who piloted the X-15 are listed in the order by which they made their first flight. The twelve stars in the sky represent the pilots service. The six white stars are for the civilians, five silver stars for the USAF pilots and 1 gold star for the US Navy pilot.

The patch is 6" in diameter and 4" high It is a fully embroidered with a merrowed border.

• Apollo on July 20th
  
• Skylab in August
  
• International Cooperation (ASTP, Shuttle-Mir and ISS) in September
  
• Space Shuttle Program in October
  
• Constellation in January, 2009

Have you given any thought to a Vostok, Voskhod, Soyuz, Salyut, Mir, etc. set of commemorative patches?

Also, I'd prefer to see ASTP as a separate patch also.

Project Gemini Commemorative 8" Patch

This design is the fourth in the series "Celebrating 50 Years of America in Space" it honors the men and women of Project Gemini.

The design celebrates every manned mission in the Gemini Program. The central focus is the Project Gemini symbol, a Roman Numeral II with two stars of the Gemini constellation indicating the two man crew. The Gemini symbol rises above the Earth and points the way to the Moon. The main theme of each crew's mission emblem surrounds the perimeter of this patch. Each crew member's surname is paired in the order in which they first flew. The surnames of the final prime crew pilots (Cernan, Collins, Gordon and Aldrin) are placed together as their commanders had already flown. The four smaller stars in the center honor Ted Freeman, Ed Givens, Elliott See and Charlie Bassett who were killed before they could fly in space.

The patch is 8" in diameter with a merrowed border. It is not fully embroidered as the area of "space" behind the crew emblems is black twill. This allows the astronauts artwork to be highlighted in a 3 dimensional effect. The center area (inside the white circle) of this patch is fully embroidered.

So in the case of the X-15, MOL, Skylab and International patches, I will make them as small as I can but still large enough to make them visually accurate and impressive.

I highly recommend these patches to anyone who collects Mercury and Gemini memorabilia, and of course, patch collectors.
