I saw an interesting pinback: an Apollo 16 command module button featuring Casper the Friendly Ghost. Can't say I've ever seen one before.

Anyone know anything about this pinback?

To my knowledge, there isn't too much information available about the 3" diameter pinbacks of the Command Module Casper from Apollo 16.

Of all my own Apollo pinbacks, the Casper is perhaps the most colorful and interesting one. The mostly blue, white and yellow button was copyright in 1972 by Harvey Famous Cartoons, "Casper, The Friendly Ghost."

Even during the Apollo 16 lunar flight in April 1972, not too many were seen here on Florida's Space Coast, however, I do have some pictures of VIP launch guests and others (including one of the crew members) with the buttons on.

As for their distribution numbers, your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks Ken. I agree. It's a really great looking and colourful pinback that I just haven't seen for sale before. Appreciate the info.

The Apollo 16 Command Module Casper pin backs are quite uncommon, maybe even rare. I have been collecting space related pin back buttons for over 10 years and I see one or two on eBay about every year.

Has anyone actually seen this poster?

I bought what is alleged to be the "artist's proof" but I have never seen this one before. It seem sot be very similar (same artist?) as this button.

I have one issued as an 8"x10" Manned Flight Awareness "mini-poster."

Once again the collectSPACE community comes through!

Thanks for the confirmation that is was published. Mine is 21x32 inches so it was either reduced for publication or there is a larger one lurking out there. I am waiting for a Casper promotional comic book to arrive which has more about Casper and Apollo 16, it may be this image was also used in that comic.

I just stumbled on this query today. You might be interested in knowing that one of these pins is actually displayed with the Apollo 16 Command Module in Huntsville. I took a picture of it last month when I dropped my son off at Space Camp, because he has one in his collection, too.

Any thoughts on the Casper the Friendly Ghost pinback offered last week by Heritage?

Does anyone know if this style of pinback were given out in commemoration of the Casper command module on Apollo 16?

All times are CT (US)
