Northrop Grumman's patch description:
The NG-12 mission patch is framed in a dodecagon in recognition of the Cygnus spacecraft's 12th CRS mission. Cygnus is prominently featured in the design foreground for its role carrying commercially delivered cargo to the International Space Station.

The Antares launch vehicle is also shown, with RD-181 Stage 1 main engines at 100% throttle due to 230+ configuration vehicle upgrades permitting full usage of engine capability for the first time.

Six stars along the stylized Stars and Stripes banner represent the missions launched by the Antares 200 series, three stars for those launch by the Antares 100 series, and three stars for those launched by Atlas V. Fifteen twinkling stars bordering the patch reflect the 15 educational CubeSats to be deployed during NG-12 for the ELaNa mission.

This patch was designed by Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems employee Mike Tosto.

The AB Emblem version of this Cygnus NG-12 patch, (top patch above), has the SKU patch design number 416245 A-B Emblem 10/19 20 (USA) date code, as reported by Joe of Skyforce Space Patches.

Today I received a few examples of these CRS Cygnus NG-12 patches with embedded label errors. The SKU patch design number error is 614245 and the date code error is 0 19 20 (USA). It should read 416245 A-B Emblem 10/19 20 (USA).

It has been bought to my attention by a fellow cS member that there are at least five slight subtle differences in the design and construction between the patches with SKU patch design number 416245 and those with 614245.

The patch shown above is the 416245. with a black dot after the "5" on the embedded label.

Other differences include the construction of the outer light blue ring border is ribbed on the "4" and not so much on the "6"); the two white stars at 10 o'clock are slightly larger on the "4"; and the blue threads behind the yellow CRS NG-12 (has more and thicker threads on the 416245. patches). There is also a small white area between the "NG1" and "CRS" on the "4" only.

The two patches on the left are the 614245. The two patches on the right are the 416245.

AB Emblem have just withdrawn these CRS Cygnus NG-12 patches and deleted them from their website. (Could this be due to the two slightly different versions of this patch currently in circulation)?

It has been reported to me that the patch on the left has now been found with the 416245 labels found on the patch on the right (but without the black dot after the "5").

AB Emblem have just re-instated the CRS Cygnus NG-12 patch onto their website.

The only changes I can see is the patch image photo used. It is no longer the right version patch, but is the left version patch, as shown above. These patches also have a new date code:

  • 416245 A-B Emblem 12/19 20 (USA)

All times are CT (US)
