How are collectors who are mounting their space patches on a display but also want to prevent permanent damage (i.e. from the use of adhesives, pins, etc.) affixing them to boards?

What are the long term issues with fugitive glue / /"booger" glue dots? I can't seem to determine if they're safe for archival purposes.

Maybe place the patch inside a small clear protective sleeve and then attach that to your display board?

I use hem tape and have no issues with residue.

Use a tag gun and short tagging barbs, you only need to use a few to secure the patch to a backing and they won't hurt anything.

Great recommendation for a soft backing. And for affixing to solid structure like wood?

The tagging needles will actually pierce archival matting board. You could mount the patch on matting board, cut to the appropriate shape/size and then mount it on the display.
