National Geographic release
National Geographic Moon Patch Set

Honor one of mankind's greatest achievements with this set of two National Geographic embroidered patches ($12.99), which celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

The triangular patch shows the Lunar Module from above, and the second patch shows a view of the moon from the perspective of the Lunar Module's porthole. Finely embroidered with 100% Polyester threads, each patch measures approximately 3" in diameter.

National Geographic also has a moon landing lapel pin set (pictured below), socks, water bottle and a t-shirt.

I saw these sets in Barnes and Noble the other day up near the cash register where they had some Apollo books on display. I only looked at the price on the pin set and I think it was $17.99.

These products and their descriptions completely mystify me...
  • The patches appear to be woven, not embroidered.
  • The triangular patch shows the Lunar Module (not the Rover) from the front (not from above)
  • The second patch shows a (rather childish) view of the moon from the perspective of the Apollo CSM (not the Lunar Rover's) porthole.
  • One of the pins depicts half an astronaut, dressed in a Shuttle-era EMU... celebrating the first Lunar landing...?
I would have expected NatGeo to have done a better job...

I agree with the two posts above. I also saw them at my local Barnes and Noble and had a "meh" reaction to them...
